He talks describes the prisons he was kept in, and is asked about what it was like to come to the breaking point physically. But as you watch and listen, you can see something of the kind of person McCain is - stoical, determined and not a quitter. . .

You mean you don’t know that prisoners of war are often beaten for non-cooperation?

Do you think all the prisoners who were beaten for the same things were lying too?

Your post makes no sense. I said prisoners do not dictate to their captors what is to be done. If they wanted McCain released, he would be released. He could not prevent it. His protestations would be meaningless.

More than half the people in the US have no clue that McCain's adopted daughter was handed to them by none other than Mother Teresa herself.

I don't care about his “faith”. He'll say what the rubes want to hear. If that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Good for you. I know what he wants to do because he has made no secret of it. And his history of backstabbing is public knowledge. And if you think what I said was a flip flop. Frankly, you're flipped out. To say that's all he has to talk about and also say let him are two separate and unrelated things.

And I should care about this, why? Lots of folks have daughters. It's no indication of fitness to hold public office.

Believe what you like. I'm sure he'll tell the story for you again and again and again.

Not every one has heard this and is SHOULD be repeated over and over and over and over and over again!!!

Sure, if it was true. The problem is, is it true.
I used to know John McCain, and heard his many stories time and time again. The problem with them was that they changed slightly every time he told them. I knew from the first time Barry Goldwater introduced him to my wife and me that McCain was looking farther than a seat in the House of Representatives. I was afraid that changes in his his stories would come back to haunt him.

I am sure he will. And I am also sure he will be the hero every time. The problem is that the stories change every time.
Do not get me wrong, I am no osmama obama supporter, but I am also no McCrazy supporter. If he wins he will do to the Republicans what Carter did to the democrats.

You are full of crap. I am no fan of McCain. But he was offered the opportunity for early release because his father was an admiral. McCain instead said that the protocol of release in order of capture should be followed. And he paid for it dearly.

I've heard the stories enough that I could done the interview last night for him. And, yes the stories have changed. Very subtlely but they have changed. I bothered me a bit early on but then I watched him tell them in groups of people. He was (I don't think intentionally) refining them to match the message that the audiences were gleaning from them. Most of it was a matter of emphasizing some parts and deemphasizing others.

At first they were raw war stories to do with as one would. Then they became little morality plays with McCain grappling in a world beyond his control. Then they became general life lessons for public consumption. The substance didn't change but the point of the stories did.

McCain is a bit enigmatic, beyond ascription to personal ambition. He will shake up the Party but I view it as a good thing. Republicans are in retreat. The map of blue and purple is growing. McCain will hold the line and shake things up while the young Turks determine the future direction of the Party.

You believe they would appoint the very same type of judges to the USSC?

Pretty close.

I don't. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't. He has seen the power of the Conservative swarm. Miers was knocked completely out of the game and we don't even know what she was. McCain's not going to risk that.

To appoint a liberal he would have to completely reverse field. There are some things that he may do that with, but not the Supreme Court. He has been absolutely rigid on pro-life issues. It used to exasperate us that he would deal with it to the point of obsession. We joked that he was catering to the Mormons but they were not even that obsessive. The guy believes it. He's with us on this one.

One little tidbit of information needs to be added. Some of the POWs did accept early release. I don't blame them in the least, I may have done the same.

It does highlight McCain's refusal.
