DALLAS - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama side-stepped a pointed query about abortion on Saturday by “mega-pastor” Rick Warren during a televised forum.
Asked at what point a baby gets “human rights,” Obama, who strongly supports abortion rights, said: “… whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity … is above my pay grade.”

Or scientist. Or president. However, community organizer might be a good position for him.
Would a guy like that ever have the nerve to carpet bomb or launch a retaliatory nuclear strike? Would he be tempted to pardon serial killers? And also— what kind of judges would he respect? The man is as flawed as the day is long. And the truth is, he had the nerve to support dumping babies in filthy utility rooms until they die. Oh he has nerve alright. He's phony, twisted, and potentially dangerous if he were smart enough to fool us.
I agree. One would be hard pressed to come up with an answer more fully efficient at repelling everyone.
Even more amazing is that the question would hardly be considered a blindside at a religious forum. It would be the one Obama and his handlers would have prepared for above all others. And that's the answer they calculated to hit it out of the park, the one sound bite the press and pundits would seize upon with admiring awe. Oh yeah.
Congratulations, Obama. Your smug-ass, too-clever-by half sound bite is destined for entry into the public lexicon, all right. It's now going to be your tagline, attached by every pundit, columnist and commentator to anything you say from hence forward: "But of course, it's above his pay grade" or "I guess that's above his pay grade too." Nyuk nyuk.
Brilliant! Love it.
Its Barry/Hillary in Nov.
Nah, it's been used here frequently. I just borrowed it. It fit perfectly, though.
How very un-obamalike of you to not take credit for work that’s not yours. You’d probably return a lost wallet to its owner with cash intact, too. You conservatives are all alike. :-)
Well, kudos to whomever thought up the phrase. It really is brilliant.
Either he has an opinion but he is hiding it (which I suspect) or he is one of those many libs who does NOT have opinions unless he has walked that path. Since he is not a woman, he doesn’t dare to have an opinion about it. Which is spineless.
Your choice — spineless or a liar.
Obama’s abortion answer to woman:
“SEE YA LATER BABY!”
Man! He tells the truth, “above my pay grade”.
This time Barack HUSSEIN “Milhous” Obama reminds me of
the old “You are an IDIOT!” links I’ve seen before!
Some of them are VICIOUS, but this one is okay ...
This is incredible. As Not WRIGHT for America points out, who is above his pay grade, Planned Parenthood?! That’s who he takes orders from on this issue! www.notwrightforamerica.com
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the press is always saying we’re up for grabs, because the press views evangelicals through the “What’s Wrong With Kansas” lens and figure the followers of Jesus should be eager to push aside the issue of murdered children in order to get a few people health care or government cheese or whatever the latest lib is offering. They also seem to think that we’re so dumb and so fixated on religion in politics that we’re going to look at John “I believe but don’t proclaim it from the stump” McCain and reject him in favor of Barack “I’m a heck of a Christian, just ask me and Jeremiah Wright” Obama.
Have you won every fight you've fought?
It’s available, I just watched it.
Especially when you consider that his stated position on abortion means that it's within a fourteen year old's pay grade to decide whether a child lives or dies.
Now if McCain upholds his end of the deal and chooses a pro-life VP, the evangelicals and pro-lifers will support the GOP.
Excellent point, and when one considers the provisions of the Freedom of Choice Act and the Born Alive Act, it appears that Obama believes the following:
1. The child gets human rights sometime between day 2 after birth and when they (if they fall in with a bad crowd) arriv at Gitmo for processing.
2. Deciding whether a child lives or dies is below the pay grade of anyone with a womb, at any age, at anytime and for any reason. Strange that he feels as a U.S. Senator and potential President he can’t figure this out, but a 14 year old who doesn’t want her 20 year old boyfriend to be in trouble has all the wisdom she needs to decide the life inside her has no business being born.
Well, I think that overstates the case somewhat, although there is no small truth there. And I think Warren and KLUV ("Positive and Encouraging") is in many ways to blame for boosting this trend along.
It's not so much that they ignore Christian theology, they emphasize and deemphasize it selectively. The unfun parts get deemphasized. The parts that make you feel good about yourself get emphasized. There is nothing in the Bible that says it's gonna be fun or that surrendering to the Lord will improve my self esteem or my inability to remember people's names or make me prosperous.
Ironically, a lot of evangelical churches don't do much evangelizing--unless by evangelizing you mean, "come to the big Halloween party, it'll be fun." OTOH, it is the first venture into Bible Study for a lot of folks. And once you start into that, the feel-good stuff ought to get harder and harder to swallow. It did for me. Now I'm Pentecostal.
One rule. If a pastor runs to the podium to music--I'm outta there.
But the bottom line on this is: A large part of the evangelical population are tweeners. They don't accept the degradation of secular humanism. But they can't get all the way to a Christian worldview. They want the good news but not the bad news. And as such, they are political 'tweeners also.
LOL Meek! I forgot about that website!
McCain was impressive last night, I watched it all.
Ethics question: Is he ethically permitted to shoot?
And the answer, class, is "No." Class, you cannot shoot unless you are morally certain that you are not endangering a human life. In doubtful situations you are always required to give "the benefit of the doubt" to human life.
Obama claims to be an advicate of human rights: but his whole philosophy appears to be built up on a firm founation of absolutely nothing. He doesn't know what a human being is. He doesn't know that human rigfhts begin when human life begins, and human life begins at the beginning.
To put it simply, at the level of Obama's pay grade: human life is transmittrd/i> from generation to generation. And it is transmitted with every successful act of human reproduction. If an offspring has been begotten, human life has been successfully transmitted to a new generation.
"Pay grade?" The Presidency of the United States is not an entry-level trainee position.
Hello, Mr McCain. Here is some red meat.
Eureka...finally someone who knows!
nope...I have had my ass kicked soundly more than once.
my daddy knocked me out once
That Clip can be made into a Great McCain commercial.
LOL! at his comment.
What does he think priests and ministers have for a paygrade?
Oh, their’s is in heaven. God bless those who support life at all stages.
Thanks for the ping!
Obviously he didn't like his conservatism, but if that Justice was in Obama’s eyes not ready for prime time, then he should himself be looking into the mirror and stepping down from the race.
Obama is a hypocrite though, so do not wait for that one.
One of my Air Force buddies and I used to sing that song. We couldn’t play it when we visited his home, however, because his otherwise pleasant and even-tempered mom referred to Coe as “that name-dropping bastard.”
He must have watched it because during todays homily he again mentioned that Catholics must look at where the candidates stand on the life issue.
From previous chats with him I know that he is scared to death that Obama will become the president.
When asked who would he take advice from if he was president, the first two were family members but the third was Sam Nunn.
I think it will be Nunn.
Meek! That is the best pic of Barack ever. Perfectly accurate. Cheers!!!
I recall with great clarity my high school government teacher telling me in 75 that Nunn would be the next President of the USA.
He is a old school dem, better then most of todays reps, in my opinion.
We did feel like he favored Obama over McCain.
By the way, my liberal daughter is one of the Hillary gals who is voting for McCain. One good thing that came out of this election, is that said daughter started watching FOXNEWS, during the primaries, because they were fair to Hillary, while the other news media clearly favored Obama. She now finds herself agreeing with many conservative thoughts. I believe she will one day be a convert. She at least has seen that the Dems are liars and propagandists.
Yeah, I think so too. He is gonna need her, after that performance.
I was fairly friendly with Waylon Jennings in the mid to late 90s since I was temporarily engaged to his Girl Friday/Office Manager...before Waylon moved to Phoenix with Jesse.
Coe would come by a lot just checking on Waylum at the Music Row Victorian Mansion that doubled as Waylum’s office and center of touring and merchandising.
a big imposing fellow but he adored Waylon....hell, they all did 'cept June Carter...ol Waymore did not suffer fools gladly
my little boys turn up the CD player in my F250 and open the windows and sunroof to hoot and holler when Coe is on ...my wife and daughters cringe..lol
You talking David Allen Coe ?..........got em ALL !
I've seen him a few times at the Broken Spoke or Iron Horse....whichever one has all the boardwalks. Coe seems like a tough coot. Definitely does things his own way.
Been watching some of those Waylon clips on youtube....with Cash, Willie, Jerry Reed - Waymore was a legend in appearance, sound, voice. I regret never having seen one of his shows.
I shook hands with Jerry Clower and Justin Wilson,
do I qualify as an expert????
Al Bundy was excited because he shook the hand
of the man who shook Andy Griffith’s hand. I know how
You aren’t listening to DAC X-rated are you???
BTW You are right on about the definition of an evangelical.
What an excellent observation! I never thought of it that way. But, that is a fact. We allow 14 year olds the power to decide if a baby should live or die.
Thank you so much!
CG came up with the concept for the pic.
Thanks, CG !!
thank you. sometimes the little gray cells cooperate with me.
He would let Terri Schiavo die if he had a second chance and he won't punish anyone with a baby, particularly the powerful federally funded Planned Parenthood.
He's a faux Christian.
God doesn’t take a paycheck.
