There have been a lot of surveys asking who you would like to have for VP, but I think it's pretty remarkable that we have just about no idea who John Sidney is actually planning on choosing for his VP.
I think that Johnny wakes up everyday and says to the person he confides in, "I want Joe to be VP."
And his adviser says, "You can't do it. You just can't do it."
And John says, "the hell with the base," but he doesn't really mean it, he just means, 'why can't they understand how much I love this guy?'
Because he really loves Joe Lieberman. And I say this as someone who has been supporting McCain for a while now. I think, based on what McCain has expressed about his life experiences, that Joe is the kind of person he would love, because loyalty, fealty, brotherhood-- that love is everything to John McCain. And he feels that Joe is loyal to him, he trusts Joe, and he feels safe having him close by. The fact that Joe has a strong record as a liberal democrat is irrelevant to him in the face of this emotional connection.
Joe has put his career on the line to support the war, and his role in the Senate on the line to campaign on behalf of his friend John McCain. I don't think McCain feels that his political platform is at risk with Joe at his side because McCain would be the president and he would be working to enact his policies, and he envisions Joe continuing to support him as he has been doing.
I think McCain is deeply conflicted about who to have for VP BECAUSE he loves Joe so much and just can't see past that. While he recognizes that there are more pragmatic picks, he doesn't feel the love and trust he feels with Joe.
If it was up to him completely, no repercussions, I think he'd pick Joe.
Yeppers I don’t think I could do that at all. I just pray he picks someone safe. Just thinking out of the box I think someone like General Tommy Franks wouldn’t be bad. Personally I’d love a ticket like that.
You make some excellent points.
Sorry again...
Respectfully disagreeing; she's a governor; VP would be a vacation!
No big deal, my fault for not being clear. But please never use the “L” word in reference to me LOL
Second that, as well as Ridge. I'm betting on a non-political, perhaps from the corporate world, or possibly the legal world. Clint Eastwood would be interesting.
If he picked Petraeus and he accepted, I would literally do cartwheels and howl and scream, clap and make my neighbors think I’m crazier than I am :)
I’d join you on that one!
That’s sweet, Uncle Miltie.
I think he’s probably going to pick Pawlenty. That would be OK with me. He has better choices available IMHO, but Pawlenty isn’t bad.
I don’t actually mind Joe Lieberman that much, but as vice president ABSOLUTELY NOT. But I don’t think McCain would do something that stupid.
Well, I think Lieberman is a great guy (too liberal, but a man of honor, which is more than you can say for most people these days) but he has all the charisma and excitement of day-old oatmeal. Heck, I figured the only reason Gore took him on was because he made Gore look like a wild ‘n crazy guy! I’m sure McCain has not wasted even one serious thought on Joltin’ Joe as VP.
My prediction: McCain will grit his teeth and pick Mitt.
Now Blackwell is an interesting name to bring up. See lots of up side, little down side. Good experience, solid conservative, just not sure about the national name recognition. May split the black vote, esp. if Hillary makes a run at or succeeds in stealing the donk nomination.
Actuallt think that would be a great pick. Makes me go hmmmm...
Senator McCain holds private meeting with Archbishop Chaput
Moves like this are likely explains Ridge's recent rise at Intrade to 15%.
I really think it will be Romney. Anyone less would mean McCain uncharacteristcally caved to pressure. Its just not like him. He’s more the type to pick on principle, on ability, competence, leadership and ignore the pleas of the mattering crowd. He recognizes the motives of the anti-Mitt crowd and would never legitimize them by going against the nations best interests—a strong thoughtful leader is in the best interests of the USA. Romney is that leader. Everyone else is just a politician.
Interesting. You’re right, he talks about Petraeus a lot.
I hear you. Pawlenty is a virtual mystery outside of being considered for VP.
I’m going with a darkhorse, Sarah Palin. She’s pro-energy development, pro-gun, pro-life, a government reformer, and she brings youth, and vitality. Plus, a woman on the ticket may grab a bunch of those pissed off Hillary supporters. Joe can be Sec. of State or Defense, not a VP.
And another thing the timing is curious. I think Romney was selected a few weeks ago. He just got back from the Olympics and a 2-week vacation before that. I think the McCain campaign told him to rest up before the announcement because there would be no rest after that.
“Look at the nurturing and the trusting going on here.”
LOL
BTW, he’ll pick Hillary
