Did the NR name names and did any of those names publically confirm they received a call? I ask because if not, the NR may be playing you like a fiddle.

The NR piece that started this is dated yesterday at 10:02 p.m. It links to an editorial against Lieberman and Ridge as viable VP choices also dated yesterday at 7:00 a.m. The first mentioned piece states that NR has "learned" that the McCain campaign has been calling state leaders to poll whether a pro-choice VP candidate would fly. It would appear NR learned of this sometime during the day.

Whether this is NR "playing" anything remains to be seen. But I hardly think it's something to ignore. What does it hurt to let our opinions be known? What does it hurt for John McCain to hear directly from grassroots conservativism? I'll answer both with one word: Nothing.

No, it doesn't hurt to let your voice be heard. But if a respectable publication concocts a bogus story for the purpose of initiating and stoking an emotional reaction from readers and voters, and possibly change the course of a presidential election, I find that disturbing.

Isn't that what the left does and something we decry? MSM manipulation of voters through propaganda and false information?

It may have happened, I was only wondering if the a story was backed up by any of these “state leaders’ who allegedly had been contacted.
