The United States Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard represents the United States Coast Guard through ceremonial operations held before world leaders and dignitaries, and to lay to rest with proper military honors, dignity, and respect the remains of fallen shipmates. The Honor Guard performs in over 1100 ceremonies annually.

The Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard was established at the request of President John F. Kennedy in 1962. The Ceremonial Honor Guard is under the direct control of the Military District of Washington and is loaned to the Coast Guard for special events. The Military District of Washington uses the Ceremonial Honor Guard for White House functions, dignitary visits, state funerals and other high-level, official ceremonial events.

The Honor Guard is comprised of 63 members, with a Lieutenant serving as the Officer in Charge, two junior officers serving as Operations Officer and Training Officer, a Chief Petty Officer as the Honor Guard Chief/Chief Master at Arms, and four Petty Officers.

The remaining 55 members of the Honor Guard are "first-tour" non-rates coming directly out of Training Center Cape May. The officers and non-rates serve a two year tour of duty in the Honor Guard, while the Chief Petty Officer and Petty Officers serve four year tours.

On March 5, 1962, Admiral Alfred C. Richmond, Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, established the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard. The Honor Guard, then located at the United States Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Md., had 33 original members.

In order to reduce the logistical problems involved in responding to ceremonial tasking in Washington , the Honor Guard moved its base of operations to Coast Guard Radio Station Washington in 1965. That facility is now known as the Coast Guard Telecommunication and Information Systems Command (TISCOM). TISCOM is located in Alexandria , Va. , and is still home to the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The King’s Colors
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. —John 13:35

In Thailand, the people greatly love and admire King Bhumibol (Rama IX), who has led them for over 60 years. To display their respect for the king, the Thai people wear bright yellow shirts every Monday, because yellow is the official color of the king.

As we seek to live for our King, the Lord Jesus Christ, we should also show our colors of allegiance and appreciation for all He has done for us. But how? What are the “colors” that declare to the world that we serve the King of kings and Lord of lords?

The night before His crucifixion, King Jesus told us what our “colors” should be when He said, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). His disciple John echoed this when he wrote, “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:11).

When we display Christ’s love for our fellow believers, it is more than just kindness or care. It is one of the most tangible ways we can show our love and devotion for the Savior.

As we interact with fellow Christ-followers, let’s be sure to show our colors. That will honor our King before a watching world.

Teach me to love as Thou dost love,
And let the whole world know
That Jesus Christ lives in my heart,
His glorious light to show. —Brandt

Our love for God shows in our love for others.

Good evening to you Stephanie, it’s good to see you!

Glad that you are enjoying the threads in the Canteen.

There may be a Patriot Guard Rider Chapter in your area, MS. B and Randy may be able to help you find one. The PGR participate in many amazing events.

As we interact with fellow Christ-followers, let’s be sure to show our colors.

The bonus here is that we are also showing our colors to those who haven't (yet) accepted our Lord and Savior.

I was thinking it was the boat show.

Ah well, I miss these things

Hope the RV show went well. Fuel is a paycheck a gallon but still... its the American dream to be able to go where ya like when ya like, and people will pay good money for that.

“There may be a Patriot Guard Rider Chapter in your area, MS B and Randy may be able to help you find one.”

That is great. I’ve been looking into trying to get involved with something like that. When the war began things would go on at the armory near us but it has to have been two years since I’ve heard of any. During that time I was doing some things with sending things to the troops through this woman whose son was over there. (He’s back now.) So I’ve been thinking a lot of about that.

Slept in late on Sat (7:30 am) and Went out to Dinner.

Now this was all her idea -

Bust our butts cleaning the house, packing up the last of DC’s stuff to move to PHX next weekend, buy a new vacuum, and finish cleaning. LOL!
