Which is a very good thing to be ... especially in some states. One can not vote in run off voting on who is going to be the candidate; and I want to vote the Candidate and not necessarily the party.

After saying that I must admit it happened about twice in 32 years, and usually in regard to state Governor races.

Certainly no reason to be discouraged, or condemned as not being Republican..

I have been a Republican/conservative, and yet in State offices elections ... it has been needed to vote for an independent candidate.

Do I detect some possible libertarian leanings coming from Palin??

Palin campaigned for Pat Buchanan in 1996. She's no libertarian.

I just read her hubby and son are not Republicans... discouraging.

i didn't find that discouraging at all... they've claimed no party... i've been conservative for years but kept my Dem registration... i have conservative friends who are not registered Republicans... big deal...

That her husband and son are not Republicans...Oh well, free thinkers and that she celebrates that is a plus!!!

It demonstrates how unconnected to the party aparatus she actually is. Isn't Biden's family entrenched in the Democrat party politics of Delware--his son's AG or something? Another one is a lobbiest?

Come on! I mean, if this were exactly reversed, the MSM would be having a field day comparing the two. Biden would be considered a refreshing renegade while the Palin family would be ridiculed for being Republican party hacks.

If Biden had a son being deployed to Iraq, they'd be all over it, showing him at basic training, etc. while contrasting Palin's lobbiest son, going to work lobbying in DC, investigating who he worked for, drafting conservative legislation. As it is, we'll see no comparisons of the Palin/Biden families.

The MSM is so transparent.

Remember that in Alaska you cannot vote in a democratic or republican primary unless you are an independent or member of that party. Lots of people in Alaska register as independents so they can vote in whichever primary they want to.

Will we see a “Lazio Moment” in the Palin-Biden debate? Let's see if Joe picks on the girl. Hillary's feigned indignation versus Sarah's de-nutting of Joe, Jesse style! Pass the popcorn!!!!

They are independent or undeclared so they can vote either way, no big deal.

When field dressing a kill, the nuts are often not removed so as to identify the gender.

Here is Rasmussen's Demographic Notes - 2008 Presidential Race

August 30, 2008: Obama currently leads by thirteen points among women while McCain leads by six among men. Among white women, the candidates are essentially even while McCain holds a substantial lead among white men.

I have to believe there will be a substantial shift among white women towards McCain in Rasmussen Daily Tracking very soon.

In Joe's case, it's hard to tell anyway, blubbering like Patsy Schroeder. That's what I liked about Gov Palin's speech: NO CRYING, but heart-felt and appropriate emotion. She is awesome!

You don't have to be discouraged...they're Independents. that's a whole lot better than being Democrats.

Removing the nuts of one of Americas biggest d*ckheads will not hinder gender identification.

“I just read her hubby and son are not Republicans... discouraging.”

Try reading beyond the headlines for a change, will ya. They registered as uncommitted in the primary, which many millions of conservatives do. You think for a moment they don't vote Republican in the General?
