"Good Grief" is correct! It is the sheepish people in this country that are allowing a government take-over of all responsibility and freedoms. You don't remember hurricane Katrina when the government confiscated the firearms?

I can well take care of myself and my family and am no more willing to give up my home or guns than Chuck Heston. My question related to the legal aspect of some local bureaucrat ordering people to leave their homes.

Are you a free citizen or just a government subject?

As a resident of southeast LA, I concur, gracesdad! Too many people who didn’t “wait around” have been falsely maligned because the media didn’t portray any who left — just those who didn’t.

Thanks jllh. My parents are safe, but this is obviously taking a toll on their mental and physical health, and their home in Thibodaux might take Cat 4 to 5 hit. They had just finished fixing it up to move back near their kids. Who knows now?

So sorry to hear of your family’s home. I can certainly identify on the toll it takes to be without basic power. We had water but had no electricity (and no generator!) for 10 days. We were about to lose what was left of our sanity when some of my colleagues, who had gotten their power back, lent us their camper trailer and a generator. As it turned out, we only used it for one night since our power came back on 9/11. I don’t think we would have lasted one more night - truly!!

Damage to the parents’ home was minimal, thank goodness, but they still haven’t gotten back home. They found out power was back, but then stopped at Jackson, Miss., because of Ike.
