The buzz begins: Will Joe Biden be dumped off ticket?

Will Sen. Joe Biden be dropped from the Democratic Party ticket before Election Day?

Television pundits, talk radio personalities and blogs have been buzzing with speculation about a last-minute VP switch for the party.

On Fox's "Hannity & Colmes" last night, Sean Hannity asked Gov. Ed Rendell, D-Pa., "Will they replace Biden with Hillary?"

Rendell replied, "No, absolutely not. Joe Biden is here to stay. Next vice president of the United States."

However, according to recent polls, Biden's popularity is not as high as Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Results from a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. national survey released yesterday have Obama and McCain virtually tied – Obama has 49 percent while McCain has 48 percent. But Sarah Palin has surged ahead of Biden on popularity with 55 percent to his 44 percent. Her favorability rating is also 6 percent higher.

Following Sen. Joe Biden's recent statement that Hillary Clinton might have been a better choice for Obama's running mate, a popular online trading exchange website is taking wagers on whether Biden will be withdrawn from the ticket.

Don’t tell anyone, but Rush is our organization’s funder. He told us to ‘confess’ it was Rezko though. “Operation Chaos.”

”No, no, no … Biden will suddenly come down with some strange medical problem that will allow him to step down gracefully (full recovery after the election) … allowing Obama to ask Hillary to join his campaign. IMHO ;-)”

BINGO! Either a strange medical condition or a family crisis within the next week or two.

Dumping Biden now would be political suicide.

So, I hope they do it.

It did wonders for McGovern didn't it. I'd love to see the DemocRATS put up McGovernesque numbers on election night.

I’d like to see Hillary swallow her pride and come up with some phoney story about how she doesn’t mind being a desparate afterthought.

That's the biggest fly in all this ointment--Hillary accepting the role of "Second Choice for Second Place!" No way, No how, Nobama. She'll be happy to wait and go for it all in four short years.

Somewhere in my box of memorabilia I have a mint "McGovern/Eagleton" bumper sticker. Maybe its time to put it on eBay.

Eagleton was respected or at least liked by a lot of us Missourians

I recall when Eagleton was named. I thought he looked very good and "Tom Eagleton of Missouri" had a real American ring to it. McGovern said he supported Eagleton "1000%" and then dumped him. McGovern got what he deserved in the election.

Bill Clinton must be furiously telling them "I told you so, I told you this clown would mess the thing up!"

I bet he spent half the summer on the phone to superdelegates, telling them exactly this.

***Maybe you could scan it and we could have an Obama/Eagleton photoshop that would go up on Cafe Press as a bumper sticker...

what would be perfect is for Biden to “bow out” and then for Hillary to turn it down. WOW - we can dream, can’t we? :-)) I think no matter how it would be handled, the public would see right through it and no good could come for BHO.

yes, Cedric - Biden is NOT a “nice guy” - and his voting record on important issues has been horrendous.

we need BOTH these guys to lose in Nov.
