Pubs +5% on Generic Congressional Ballot with LIKELY voters!
Gallop ^

Posted on 09/12/2008 6:15:42 AM PDT by fooman

The positive impact of the GOP convention on polling indicators of Republican strength is further seen in the operation of Gallup's "likely voter" model in this survey. Republicans, who are now much more enthused about the 2008 election than they were prior to the convention, show heightened interest in voting, and thus outscore Democrats in apparent likelihood to vote in November. As a result, Republican candidates now lead Democratic candidates among likely voters by 5 percentage points, 50% to 45%.

Yep,

By putting up such a rediculous joke of a candidate nationally and a smart campaign being run by McCain and the republicans in general, we are starting to see the movement down ticket.

Its still early, but this is beginging to look more and more like a route of the Dems folks.

Talk of dems picking up seats in congress are going to become a thing of the past very soon, and the real possibility of R’s gaining seats may appear.

If this happens, especially considering that more R’s are up for re-election than dems, and the economy, and George Bush being run as an issue..... you are talking a complete and total repudiation of Fauxbama and the DEMOCRATS, if it gets to this level. Something that should not even be possible under classical political thinking.

But then again, “thinking” and “talking” are no subsitute for thinking and doing.

Good news. But, I wonder: Does John McCain care if he has a Republican congress?

Good to see but not necessarily conclusive. People often vote differently for individual candidates than they do on generic surveys and you’d really need a district by district poll to be able to make real projections.

This has probably already been posted, with the lead buried. We are up FIVE points and have a chance to kick Pelosi out!

If this happens, the knives will come out for Obama. Instead of winning in a year DemocRATS were favored to win the presidency and add to their majorities in congress, Obama has managed to put the DemocRATS in position to lose both the presidency and congressional majorities. In this case, Obama's senate seat may be winnable in 2010.

The good news just keeps coming.

We need to continue the fight like we’re behind. Keep beating back those liberals. They’re not dead until we drive a stake through their commie hearts.

I think it is unlikely we can get the House back this cycle, but it is just amusing (or embarrassing) going back and reading people who only six or seven months ago were going on about +40 seat gains for the Dems in the House, or a filibuster-proof Senate--or that 2008 was going to be a "realigning" election.

At this point, any Obama Wins scenario hints at one of the weakest 'mandates' in decades--the Obama campaign is already laying the groundwork--through backgrounders to the press and selected/paid for blog chatter--for a possible win via serious electoral college/popular vote inversion, and by now it is clear (to professional politicos if not amateur Kool-Aid drinkers) that the man's downticket coattails will be zilch.

If the GOP has a real 5% lead-—and I just don’t believe it-—then that should translate into a gain of about 10 seats. So . . . find me the 10 seats the GOP is going to pick up. Northup could stage a push (she only has to make up 3%). There is a seat in PA that might flip back. Otherwise, I’m not seeing them.
