Solo in Nevada, Palin draws big crowd

CARSON CITY, Nev., Sept 13 (Reuters) - Out on the road as a solo act, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd in Nevada on Sunday by pledging to shake up Washington if elected with John McCain on Nov. 4.

After a farewell rally in her home state of Alaska, Palin flew to the "lower 48" U.S. states to campaign on her own in Nevada, Colorado and Ohio over the next few days before rejoining McCain.

Alaska Gov. Palin, 44, has quickly soared from political unknown to popular Republican politician in the space of two weeks, helping the 72-year-old McCain vault into a slight lead in public opinion polls over Obama.

The Obama campaign, which has struggled to respond to the Palin phenomenon, has issued fierce attacks against her in an attempt to undermine her credibility as a self-styled reformer.

She sought to reach out to voters beyond the traditional Republican base to independents who may well make the difference in McCain's battle against Obama.

"We're going to take our case for reform, that needed reform in Washington D.C., to voters of every background, of every party or no party at all," she said.

Having helped McCain generate large rallies when appearing with him, she showed herself to be a powerful draw as a solo act. Thousands of supporters cheered "Sarah, Sarah."

When she said we were going to drill wherever we could find oil in the USA, the crowd started chanting “Drill, Baby, Drill” over and over and wouldn’t let up.
Pony Express Pavillion seats 3500. Estimates range from 8,000 to 10,000 showed up, and there were people there as early as 8 AM to get in. She spoke about 5:45.

This was down the road from here about 20 mins away in the state capitol.

They had 3500 hearing Palin speak inside the venue, and maybe three times that outside watching her speech on a jumbo screen TV.

I'm told that it was quite the scene. People swarming all over Carson City like ants.

She’s due here in Colorado on Monday. There was supposed to be a pancake breakfast at a local airport but the demand for tickets was so large that they had to cancel the breakfast and move to a larger venue.
Wonder how the MSM will cover that.

My girlfriend and I wanted to drive up from Vegas, but when I saw the venue only held 3500 I figured it would be pointless.

Uh, that’s “lower 55” for those people around Barry.

Thank you for the update.
I felt sure she would hold her own by herself.
I wish I could have been there.

And, you got to see her first solo.
Good for you.

That's how I know they'll carry Colorado. The enthusiasm is amazing. We bagged Nevada and Colorado is a cinch!

1. Sarah Palin used a Lincoln quote to slap Charlie Gibson. We have that very quote up on the wall in our GOP Hq in Woodstock, Georgia. Come see.
2. Today there was a GOP rally in Atlanta GA with our Gov Perdue and US Sen Chambliss & Isakson. Overflow crowd and a live phone call from Sen McCain.
However, whenever Sarah was mentioned the crowd went wild. Thanks to the likes of Charlie Gibson helping to get her elected.

Does anyone have a link to her speech? Have they made a video of it yet?(I know a little early yet probably, but I wanted to go see her but couldn’t make it, and I only live about 2 hour drive from Carson City, frustrating!)
