Another musical icon has passed away.
RIP Rick as you head off to the 'Great Gig in the Sky', and say hi to Old Pink, er Syd.
His keyboard playing was mesmerizing. RIP.
Sad day. RIP Richard.
One could wish the boys would do a little tribute piece for RW.
The end of an era.
Wish You Were Here is one of my top 3 favorite albums; it still holds up after all these years (like Kind of Blue).
The greatest band of all time.
RIP Rick.
“We’re just two lost souls floating in a fish bowl year after year...”
OK, so I’m a half hour after you... Same sentiment.
When the compact discs started to replace LPs and cassettes back in the early 1980s, DSOTM was the very first compact disc I ever bought and I held on to that until the "gold" edition came out a few years later. All told, I probably purchased DSOTM seven times in my lifetime. Once as an LP, twice as a cassette, once as an 8-track, twice as a compact disc and once as a DVD (in which DSOTM was done in concert).
On MP3, I collect as many Pink Floyd cover versions as I can find and have managed to put together a complete DSOTM album comprised entirely of cover versions by other artists.
Accompanied by a great big flying Pig? (sans lipstick)
My kids turned me onto the “latest and greatest” radio station where I hear a lot of Disturbed, Foo Fighters, etc. They also play a lot of Pink Floyd and Rush.
He also did lead vocals on Time, Echoes, and Remember a Day three of my favorites. Love his piano and harmonies on Us and Them. I think his harmonies is what gave the band its distinctive sound before Roger Waters hijacked the band in the late 70s.
Godspeed, Rick
Aaack! I never knew he was sick! Great keyboard player, and able to get lots of sounds out of a Hammond Organ (lots of the early stuff was organ, not synth). Not a bad singer either, as evidenced by stuff like “Matilda Mother,” “Echoes,” the middle bits to “Time” and “See Saw.” I’m glad he did the tour with Gilmour last year, and was apparently very happy on a personal & professional level at the end (per DG’s commentary on the DVD release).
cancer? there were continual reports of him being seriously into alcohol. I guess the alcohol didn’t kill the cancer cells
On some of the latest (15 years ago) Pink Floyd tours they had another keyboard player. To supplement what Wright churned out on any given night. Not that he was a bad player but substance abuse complicated matters
Glad you started this thread, I was gonna start one if you hadn’t.
RIP Rick. You will be missed.

I’ve been moping ever since I heard this news earlier this evening. I’ve got Floyd videos playing on youtube and I’m going to end the night by listening to my Pink Floyd CDs.
RIP Rick!!
