Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin blew onto the national political scene like a surprise hit movie - with an exciting script, a new landscape, a fresh face - that suddenly everyone wanted to see and talk about.
But now that the Republican vice presidential candidate has been seen and heard by millions - and parodied on "Saturday Night Live" before millions more - a question has been raised about the "Palin Effect." While GOP loyalists apparently still love the movie, is it starting to wear thin on the rest of America, particularly the legions of middle-of-the-road voters?
"Is she a one-hit wonder? Unless she does something radically different from what she's currently doing, yes," Cal State Sacramento political communications Professor Barbara O'Connor said this week. She said that in the 23 days since Palin was named the GOP vice presidential choice, her script has been a limited and increasingly predictable one. "It's fine to say she needed some time to get her footing ... but we're well past that."
Palin's decision to postpone a two-day fundraising and campaign trip to California this week also might say as much about John McCain's campaign troubles this week as it does about her own, insiders say.
Campaign officials said Palin will bolster her foreign policy credentials by appearing with McCain at the United Nations next week. But the Alaska governor has been rescheduled to be almost exclusively at the side of McCain until the election - in part because she boosts the size of GOP activist crowds that the party's presidential candidate can't attract.
Jon Fleischman, the Southern California vice chair of the state GOP, said Palin remains enormously popular with Republicans - and a huge plus for their presidential campaign message.

You'd like that, wouldn't you??
Dem talking points. Mind plants.
Dream On. Just like that Ronald Reagon effect in ‘76.
The one who is wearing thin is “The One”.
But if she and McCain come through in the debates, she'll prove her substance to the doubters, and we won't be hearing about this anymore.
What’s the “Palin Effect”? Is it moonbats’ heads spinning like a quasar and spewing unpleasantries that would have their mothers disown them? Yeah, that’s wearing thin.
As opposed to the Biden Effect?
LLS
Nothing matters until the debates.
I've seen tons of talk about this but very little evidence. If you have solid evidence to support this, I'd love to see it. All I've seen is talk, one or two prominent folks, and very little substantial evidence.
I suspect we’ll see more of her, figuratively speaking, come the VP debate. Right now, I think she’s doing just what she needs to do as a veep candidate: hit the campaign trail, support her future boss, and convince people to open their checkbooks.
“Is ‘Palin Effect’ already wearing thin?”
Wishful thinking by the very liberal S.F. Chronicle.
If this rag stated the sun was going to come up in the east this morning I’d go check.
Saracuda is just great.
I worship every word that the SF Chronicle writes. (sarcasm)
Rat wishful thinking, based on the Obama Campaign’s latest whispering points.
I believe it is someone else who is wearing thin.
Namely, The One who has demonstrated no substance, just a lot of symbolism such as fake, tacky Greek columns.
That’s exactly right. If Governor Palin is wearing so thin, then why are the crowds turning out to see her growing increasingly large?
thank you. can we get to the issues? i’d say let’s get BACK to the issues but we were never there.
Seems like the only thing to have worn thin is the veneer surrounding the Obama campaign. Truth be told, I’d about given up on politics any further than the county in which I live. Since Palin joined the ticket, I took notice and started paying more attention. Maybe the Obama campaign and his media supporters have been lying all along, but since Palin entered the fray, the deceit has been mind boggling.
So and so said someone, Palin maybe, couldn’t run a corporation. That phrase has been repeated, picked up, and echoed. Then one sees a soundbite on the news and turns out the person who said it also said all of the above, McCain, Obama, Biden couldn’t run a corporation.
Then we have Obama telling his supporters that if anyone asks about his stand on the Second Amendment, that they were to lie, in effect, and say things contrary to his record. Take for example Illinois senate bill 2165, voted on in March and May of 2004...don’t know the outcome of the bill, but apparently (I haven’t bothered checking it and no doubt I’ll do time for that.) it would have made criminals out of folk who use a gun to defend themselves.
I guess in the All Illinois Christian Church of the Modern Christ things like that pass muster. When Jesus sent out the disciples two by two, he told them to take their cloak and their sword. All Obama arms his thugs with is their mouth and he places lies there for them to spread.
Time to take a nap.
