LOS ANGELES - Hollywood once again pulled out its political punching bag on a national stage Sunday, weeks before a new president is elected.
Granted, the platform was served by two HBO shows that ended up winning Emmys "John Adams," which chronicled the life of the second president, and "Recount," which dealt with the contested 2000 presidential election.
Comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, who host political satire shows on Comedy Central, told viewers they would avoid talking about the upcoming election.
That promise was short-lived.
"I think right now America needs a prune," said Colbert, who pulled out a bag of the dried fruit and was presumably referring to GOP presidential candidate John McCain. "It may not may be a young, sexy plum. But this dried-up fruit has the experience we need."

I was pleased that Mad Men won./Just Asking - seoul62......
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
How’bout them Cowboys?!? It was a great game.
As for TeeVee ... ‘Deadliest Catch’ should have swept the emmys. ;o)
Emmy: em=M my(me`)=ME. It’s all about ME. Self centered a-hole award.
I resisted watching 30 Rock but finally gave it a try. It’s hilarious. It actually makes fun of Liberals and Conservatives. Alec Baldwin is very good as the Conservative boss. I’m trying not to see everything in my life through a political lens. It’s hard to do because I’m such a political junkie. Also, “John Adams” was one of the best series I’ve ever seen. It made me so proud to be an American.
That was one of the best. I remember when it first played, I fell out of my chair laughing so hard.
Thank God for TIVO and WGN.
There was lots of cheap shots. Laura Linney claimed that John Adams and his folk were “Community organizers”. Then the producer of JOHN ADAMS went on a rant about having leaders who speak in complete sentences. Thank goodness they cut him off.
Gadzooks! I hear Geico... has some good insurance for that!
BTW #1 am I the only one who found it utterly tasteless (Yet normal for the Hollywood Fruits'n Nuts) that the Looney Left Coast crowd laughed when Chuck Heston appeared in the Memorial section?
BTW #2 am I the only one who is bothered by that new Chevy TV commercial with the gas station and road infrastructure being built and rebuilt over the years in that beautiful mountain setting only to disappear after the new Algore GREEN Chevy vehicles come along to make all future traces of mankind disappear?
BTW #3 in the 1960 world of "Man Men" at least the cool people are Good Republicans as it should be!
I am really glad I did not watch...I can’t stand Laura Linney!!!
....we didn’t watch...again. I did see a couple of episodes of John Adams however; then stopped watching that series...the Adams character reminded me of modern liberals....constantly indignant; always on the muscle.
It’s like a bad movie - Hollywood’s pompous windbags, spoiled self-centered brats who are slaves to their enormous egos, will once again back another losing candidate, and once again make the mistaken assumption that Americans actually care what actors think of politicians.
Mensa candidates they are not.
Hysterical. Who exactly needs guidance from people who’s livelihood is derived by speaking words other people have written for them? Didn’t they use cue-cards last night?
I recall nearly p!ssin myself during Les Nessman's live report...and the look on his face [with feathers in his hair] was priceless...
I believe that guy (if it's who I'm thinking) is in the HBO show "Entourage." He plays the part of an agent for the "star" of the show.
They still have the Emmies?
All the more reason to move hollywood to Canada.
Obviously a racist attempt to put down the young, darker candidate.
