ABC News: Deal May Be Dead: Democrats Blaming McCain

After days of intense bipartisan negotiations and meetings today at the White House, the deal to bail out staggered investment banks may be dying amid partisan finger-pointing.

Republicans blame Democrats. Democrats blame Republicans, and a key Democrat even pointed a finger at Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain.

House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., told Democratic colleagues that McCain's sudden heightened involvement in the negotiations has destroyed chance of an agreement, sources told ABC's George Stephanopoulos.

Frank compared McCain's involvement to "Richard Nixon blowing up the Vietnam peace talks in 1968."

Gloves need to come off on this BS, BuBa Klinton opened the door on the RATS this morning, we need to kick it wide open and expose the Frank,Johnson, Raines. The folks that I have talked to "on the street" all say that they would rather suffer a depression than bail out the investment banks.

They don't understand what the real problem is - but that's another story...

The real culprit is the Congressional seniority system that allows a representative to make laws affecting the entire nation while being answerable only to his or her small district. So long as he or she manages to toss enough pork into the district, their re-election and rise in seniority is assured. And no one can really blame the voters who want powerful representatives. We need either term limits or abolishment of the seniority system to truly reform Congress.
