Great video, but I wish he would have attacked Obama at the same time.

he did manage to get a zinger in there on Biden though.

I wish McCain would have shown that so-called famous temper of his and demanded that Gwen Ifill be replaced.

Do you want McCain to look incredibly ignorant? Ifill was announced at the beginning of August (almost two months ago), and the debate schedules were published over a month ago.

McCain's people have known all along she was a liberal, and anybody who spent 30 seconds on Google back in August knew she was not only a liberal but had a book coming out (the AP was even running a story or two mentioning it back in July).

If there was going to be outrage and posturing, it should have happened back in August - to have it happen the day before the debate would just look so idiotic..people mock McCain for not being technically literate, but he's got plenty of people on his staff who know how to use the internet.

McCain is confident that Palin can hold her own - she's made a few mistakes, but if he didn't think she could handle real debates, then he wouldn't have picked her. People need to calm down and trust his judgement.

I second your sentiment.

I'm sure you do. Have any of you trolls realized a sign-up date is the first thing looked at when replying to a post? You have a posting history as well. This isn't DU or KOS kids.

I'm sorry, but I don't think Ms. Palin is ready to be VP. I hope she can pove to me otherwise in the VP debate. Please don't be upset with me, because this is honestly how I see it.

Fine - you and I have a fundamental difference if you don't think it was the responsibility of Ifill to disclose that she has a book about Obama coming out on inauguration day, especially since she has been openly supportive of Obama and has made snide remarks about Sarah Palin.

The FACT that Ifill kept this information from PBS is very telling. Sorry, but you sound like a dem blaming McCain and his staff for not discovering her cover-up. There is so much information overload these days, I can understand the oversite - especially since the title and details of Ifill's book have just been discovered. If you or any other news & internet hound Googled it, why wasn't it posted on FR before now - hummmmm? This news has spread like wild fire since it was just discovered.

If there was going to be outrage and posturing, it should have happened back in August - to have it happen the day before the debate would just look so idiotic..

NO IT WOULDN'T. AT LEAST THE MEDIA WOULD HAVE TO ACTUALLY COVER IT. Rescheduling the debate to change moderaters or pulling Ifill and replacing her would at least inform the public of what she tried to get away with. My bet is that the average Joe Six Pack voter would agree that this doesn't just give the appearance of unfairness, but it is absolutely dirty politicking corruption at it's best.

Read this and see if you don't agree.

IN the next debate on the economy Mac will come out and state level bama. While he was in congress pushing for more oversight over fannie and freddie, bama was already out there campaigning for president spending the contributions he receivied from fannie and freddie when he should have been at work learning something about the job he had recently be elected to.

her cover-up.

LOL, if that was a "cover-up", it was the cover-up in history. Generally cover-ups don't involve giving interviews that are covered by the Associated Press where your book is prominently mentioned (and where you are being interviewed because of said book). Cover-ups don't involve your book being listed on Amazon where anybody in the world can see your name attached to that book.

If you or any other news & internet hound Googled it, why wasn't it posted on FR before now - hummmmm?

This comes off as an insult when it's really just me being blunt, but we're not going to hold your hand. Maybe you are not old enough to remember the 2004 VP debates in which case your excused, but the woman was bitchy to Dick Cheney during a Cheney/Edwards debate back in 2004 and made some snide comments during the course of the debate.

When she was selected as a debate moderator this year, there were threads started here where FReepers were surprised that McCain accepted her, given what she did during the 2004 debates.

Obviously, you missed those threads, but there is no way that you couldn't have spent 30 seconds on Google and found out about her treatment of Cheney in 2004.

All you had to do was look up the VP debates she has moderated before. Hell, there is probably YouTube videos of her comments to Cheney.

The FACT that Ifill kept this information from PBS is very telling.

Actually that's pretty normal behavior in the media. I'm surprised she spoke with people about the book publicly and allowed those comments to be run through the Associated Press because of that. There are so many journalists always writing books, typically they try and keep what they think are incredible ideas for books secret until they are ready to hit the presses because they don't want somebody else stealing their precious ideas or rushing their own book to print in an effort to try and be first. There are so many books in progress about the 2008 election cycle that you almost have to assume that everybody is writing one.

Rescheduling the debate to change moderaters or pulling Ifill and replacing her would at least inform the public of what she tried to get away with.

I'll lay out for you straight-up - the woman should have been pulled for how she treated Cheney. McCain's people know how she treated Cheney in 2004 during that VP debate. The book is nothing - it's just a distraction from the real issue, which was her treatment of Cheney.

I don't like McCain, I don't like some of the things he's done and some of his beliefs, but I have to accept him, and I will trust his judgement that he believed that even after Ifill mistreated Cheney in 2004, that he felt Palin can handle her.

So just calm down - as I said, the book thing is a non-issue compared to the crap she pulled in 2004 against Cheney.

So just calm down - as I said, the book thing is a non-issue compared to the crap she pulled in 2004 against Cheney.

Wow - So let me get this straight - and trust me, I'm old enough to remember the Cheney/Edwards debate in 2004. But I am astounded that you think the book is a non issue compared to what happened four years ago: During a vice-presidential candidate debate Ifill moderated in 2004 – when Democrat John Edwards attacked Republican Dick Cheney’s former employer, Halliburton – the vice president said, “I can respond, Gwen, but it’s going to take more than 30 seconds.” And Ifill said, "Well, that’s all you’ve got," she told Cheney.

Was Ifill bitchy and rude to Cheney? You bet she was. I agree with you that McCain should have never agreed to her as a moderator in the first place. Sometimes it's hard to believe that McCain was actually in the military since he's constantly taking a feather to a gun fight. But make no mistake, Ifill's "non-actions" are clearly a conflict of interest.

Should the news of Ifills book have been noticed by anyone in the Republican party sooner? You bet, but it wasn't. Again, I attribute it to news overload - and the fact that conservatives tend to ignore AP articles because of their blatant bias. But that doesn't excuse Ifill for keeping mum - at least for the likelihood of a perceived conflict of interest. At the very least, she should have made sure the Debate Commission AND the McCain campaign knew about her book. If she had nothing to hide, why was she NOT candid and up front?

You and I will just have to agree to disagree when it comes to which incident is worse. To me, Ifill's bitchy and flippant remark to Cheney had zero implications on the election of 2004. Ifill has two very good incentives to submarine Palin - She is an Obama supporter and will enjoy counting her money from book sales if he wins. But more importantly, she is in a position to make a huge difference in this election and after she has shown everyone who she really is, why in the hell should ANY of us trust her?

You made no mention of the analogy in the link I provided in my last post to you. I'm sick of hypocrits and double standards and want this wrong-doing exposed to the masses.

I’m a troll because I refuse to join in with the Bash Sarah idiots on here?

Really tired of this crapola of accusing new accounts of being trolls. Seems like it is all the 1998 and 1999s who are saying they’re voting for Bob Barr.

I'm saying that she's shown a prejudice long before now - her attitude towards Cheney during the debate, and comments made after the debate, and that is more important.

Was Ifill bitchy and rude to Cheney? You bet she was. I agree with you that McCain should have never agreed to her as a moderator in the first place. Sometimes it's hard to believe that McCain was actually in the military since he's constantly taking a feather to a gun fight. Agreed - and there was a clip of McCain on Fox tonight saying that they weren't bothered by the book and they weren't afraid.

I honestly don't think they are putting on a front - I think McCain is getting a lot of bad advice from members of his campaign or he's stubborn, but he really seems to think that Palin can handle anything thrown at her. I'm trusting his judgment, but I'm concerned. The only good thing is that for every gaffe that Palin has made, Biden has made one as well (although they don't get covered as much).

I see the point of the analogy you were talking about, but at this point...we have to support McCain - Lord help us, we're stuck with him, and the alternative is much worse.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what you and I and everybody else in this thread thinks - this isn't about us, we'll vote regardless of what happens in the debates. This is about the undecideds.
