Painful Lessons Americans have to learn (Hurl Alert)
The Ironton Tribune (irontontribune.com)/Ironton, Ohio ^ | October 3, 2008 | Jim Crawford

Posted on 10/05/2008 7:00:18 AM PDT by garbageguy

It is hard to remember tougher times than those of today in America. Our economic system, the model for the planet, is crumbling; our energy costs are out of control; we are engaged in two long and expensive wars; our deficits in spending are higher than ever in our history; our homes are more at risk than they have ever been. Are there any lessons to be learned from all of this, so we can avoid ever repeating all that has taken us here?

Liberalism is an infantile mental disorder.

Yes; spend less than you have coming in.

Set expectations to reality.

Accept that government can't solve all problems.

There's more, but that's a good start.

I guess the reporter in question is under the age of 30—if they were older, they’d remember 1979 VERY well. I certainly do.

our energy costs are out of control; Democrats: no drilling, no nukes, no coal.

we are engaged in two long and expensive wars; Democrats are determined to lose both inviting much more devastating terrorist attacks and wars in the future.

our deficits in spending are higher than ever in our history; So why hasn’t the Democrat house and senate put a halt to it?

our homes are more at risk than they have ever been. Because of a Dem engineered banking crisis.

Are there any lessons to be learned from all of this, so we can avoid ever repeating all that has taken us here? Yes. Unless we wake up and see that Barak Obama are leading us into a socialist welfare state we’ll get exactly that.

Yes. Liberalism has never worked, isn’t working now, and will never work.

The article is absurd alarmism. We still have one of the highest standards of living in our history and in the world. Energy costs are NOT out of control, but remain safely under the principles of economics, as long as government doesn't get in the way. People don't seem to be driving less or more economically, at least in my neck of the woods, which basically means that the price of fuel is acceptable to most of these folks. We insist on being pampered, wanting our houses at the ideal temperature year round, when our predecessors would us a/c only on the hottest days and turn down the heat at night. If we want the "low prices" (whatever that means) of yesterday, we must adopt the mindset of those living in those times.

Tax breaks to the rich... blah, blah, blah. I'm so sick and tired of this meaningless Marxist drivel, which doesn't tell the whole story. I make less than $100k/year and I got a very respectable tax break, percentage-wise.

“Our economic system, the model for the planet, is crumbling”

Nice thing to say. I was in Saigon 2 years ago. The VietCong realizes that our way (free market) is the best way and they continue to give the power back to the people on economic issues and I saw our way beginning to work well for the people. How shameful for democrats to ignore that their way is what caused this economic crisis and their way was closer to being what Vietnam’s system was 15 years ago.

Ironton is very insular. A lot of inbred Democrats. The remaining folks should have cancelled their subscriptions long long ago but there are hangers-on who wont cancel ‘cuz how’d they know who died this week without the obituaries on page 2?

When we get to an Alinsky Marxist/Socialist America, the left will look back sadly at capitalistic America while they’re experiencing a two-class society, the Ruling Class and the Classless Class.

The sky is falling…again. I wish someone would tell the hundreds of people I had to dodge at Wal-Mart this morning that their lives are so miserable.

"lessons to be learned"

Why yes, Mr. Crawford, there are lessons to be learned. And the major one is to never let a lib within a mile of an elected office.

"absurd alarmism"

It doesn't help when your candidate mouths lib talking points. McCain addresses every crowd as if they're all "struggling." I know some people are hurting, but I personally don't know any people, Dem or Republican, who are struggling like McCain says.

Any candidate has to play down to the lowest common denominator if he wants to win. Of course, McCain will commiserate with the "struggling, downtrodden" because there are those like that, or who think they are like that, in society, and every vote counts.

I think it's hysterical that the truly poor in most of the world would give their right arm to live as the "poor" in this country live.
