Take that, Tina: Palin wants to spoof her spoofer

It's looking more and more likely that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will appear on ''Saturday Night Live'' -- to have some fun with Tina Fey. » Click to enlarge image Actress Tina Fey (left) performs comedic impressions of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live." But Palin may be working on a spoof of Fey's American Express commercials. (NBC/AP)

As the comedian's impressions of the GOP vice presidential candidate draw laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, a top honcho from the John McCain campaign tells me there's a debate going on about how to respond.

Some key McCain staffers are content with Palin joking about the "SNL" routines on the campaign trail -- as when scribbled "I'm not Tina Fey" on a supporter's cell phone and said she'd dressed as Fey on Halloween. But others -- including the governor herself -- think a return punch on the NBC airwaves is what's needed.

I'm hearing some sort of Palin tweak of Fey's American Express commercials is in the works.

While next weekend's ''Saturday Night Live'' will be a rerun, it is possible Palin could appear Thursday on the first of NBC's ''Weekend Update'' specials in prime time.

Palin playing Fey, interviewing Fey playing Palin would be absolute TV Gold.

That would degrade the office of VP and maybe President...not such a good idea, even if I’d love to see it.

Apparently SNL mocked Barney Frank last night. Does anyone have a link to the skit?

This strikes me as wholly unnecessary, barring the right kind of skit. Americans do like someone who can laugh at themselves, not take themselves seriously. The problem, of course, is if it looks like she really doesn’t have confidence in herself.

She shouldn’t do this before the election. Gives her enemies too much ammo like....she’s not a serious politician, etc.

She just said live in Omaha that her interviews with Katie were only to give Tine Fey more material for SNL! HAHAHAHHAAHAHAHA!

Disagree. Like it or lump it, the Tina Fey version of Sarah has legs. Having fun with it, even while you are pitbill'ing Obama is a good idea, as long as it is carefully managed.

Look, we had Mad-Cow Albright doing silly things as SecState. We don’t need to up the ante by having the VP-hopeful doing silly crap as well.

It was great skit, they even had Soros show up at the end, who was introduced as the owner of the Democratic Party.

I saw that too.

Sarah and Tina on SNL together would be fantastic.

Don’t reach out too far... people are just aiming to hurt Palin...

BTW, I absolutely hate the McCain’s people... I cringe whenever I hear the words “McCain advisor” or “McCain insider” or “McCain staffer”...

I agree with you. Palin HAS to appear with Fey to disarm this character (Fey) asap.

Plus Clinton went on with Arsenio and it didn’t hurt him in the polls. Celebrity media is now part of any campaign and not considered bad form like it was 20-years ago.

I should hope that the McCain/Palin camp learned their lessons. She should only appear live so as not to give network commies a chance to edit any of her remarks.
