The Real Obama (Sowell on Obama)
Jewish World Review ^ | October 7, 2008 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 10/06/2008 6:13:57 PM PDT by jazusamo

Critics of Senator Barack Obama make a strategic mistake when they talk about his "past associations." That just gives his many defenders in the media an opportunity to counter-attack against "guilt by association."

We all have associations, whether at the office, in our neighborhood or in various recreational activities. Most of us neither know nor care what our associates believe or say about politics.

Associations are very different from alliances. Allies are not just people who happen to be where you are or who happen to be doing the same things you do. You choose allies deliberately for a reason. The kind of allies you choose says something about you.

Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger, William Ayers and Antoin Rezko are not just people who happened to be at the same place at the same time as Barack Obama. They are people with whom he chose to ally himself for years, and with some of whom some serious money changed hands.

Some gave political support, and some gave financial support, to Obama's election campaigns, and Obama in turn contributed either his own money or the taxpayers' money to some of them. That is a familiar political alliance— but an alliance is not just an "association" from being at the same place at the same time.

Obama could have allied himself with all sorts of other people. But, time and again, he allied himself with people who openly expressed their hatred of America. No amount of flags on his campaign platforms this election year can change that.

Unfortunately, all that most people know about Barack Obama is his own rhetoric and that of his critics. Moreover, some of his more irresponsible critics have made wild accusations— that he is not an American citizen or that he is a Muslim, for example.

It seems Chuck Schumer caused the run on Indymac. Did he do it on purpose prior to the election?
No it can be blamed on Bush's "new tone" lunacy when he appointed Paulson a Democrat from Goldman Sachs...There's a photo of him (Paulson) somewhere with a parade of Democrats behind him, all smiling like cats eating shit.

Paulson was/is the October surprise and Bush fell for it hook line and sinker. Am I the only one that sees that?

My guess is that well over 85 percent of the likely voters have already decided.

The remaining battle is is on the last 15 percent.

The future argument may hold much power on this group. Thus they should be reminded that future tax rate increases will kill many of their future jobs.

The avalanche of job loss could be huge. Like when the ecos shut down logging, commercial fishing, mining...operations. The whole area suffers as the primary wage earners stop visiting restaurants, retail...businesses. Then the secondary wage earners lose their jobs too...

Once these good paying jobs are lost locally, they may disappear for the next generation or three.

BO and 61 Dummie Senators would put a fork in their jobs and their kids can forget about college...

That book is titled "The Case Against Barack Obama" by David Freddoso

I just read through the first 120 pages of this which details his days as a state senator and how he has essentially never had to run a against anyone credible--the closest he's really ever had is against Alan Keyes, and even though I like Alan, he was cannon fodder in that race.

For those of you who that care, do a quick search for the name Emil Jones. That should be enough to get you hopping mad.

I’d say you’re about right on those percentages and let us pray that 15% are patriotic and realize the harm BO will do if elected.

that he is not an American citizen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Someone should write Thomas and indicste the difference between "citizenship" and the constitutional requirement that a presidential candidate be "natural born" in the United States.

Obama has not revealed a Certificate of Live Birth and continues to refuse to do so. A little odd, seeing as he must spend thousands of dollars to defend a case in a Pennsylvania Federal Court, brought by Attorney Berg, which claims that Obam is not a "natural born" American.

Thomas Sowell is so wise, he's too wise to get into the institution of politics. But his insights are like gold nuggets in a field of coal lumps:

David Freddoso's book should be read by those people who want to know what the facts are. But neither this book nor anything else is likely to change the minds of Obama's true believers, who have made up their minds and don't want to be confused by the facts.

I’m amazed that you have to ask! ... Schumer had insider information of the financial institutions on the verge of failure. He mere pushed the first domino his committee knew would fall into the others. Lest we forget, the Democrat party has been more than willing to empower themselves via the slaughter of alive unborn children. Do you doubt they would sacrifice your financial security to achieve final control when the entire world is being drawn into a financial catastrophe the Democrats actually engineered for failure because of their socialist beliefs?

Past associations or past alliances, whatever you call them, are tremendously important because they indicate characer and character goes to TRUST. It is trust that is of utmost importance in our elected officials. For example, in January there will be a new Sec. of the Treasury who will be in control of the 850 billion congress has just voted to spend.

How important is it that the new Sec. Treasury be a man we can trust to properly administer this money?

What a crystal clear expression of the issue. I hope it gets out to the people.

Dr. Sowell has a marvelous ability to get right to the heart of things. Palin and McCain need to change to the word alliances, because there truly is a significant difference.

Americans are being frighteningly naive about Senator Obama, never seeming to question that the puppeteers who have programmed and introduced him onto the American stage have a plan for this nation that does not coincide with the ideals of the Declaration and United States Constitution.

The liberty of millions yet unborn hangs in the balance in this election, and between now and Election Day, someone needs to expose those who control Obama's agenda.

So very true...After the millions wasted that he was partly in control of as a community organizer I wouldn’t trust him to appoint someone to control five cents worth of taxpayer dollars let alone billions.

Not only that though, it is evident he has lied to all Americans on many things and a man with no integrity can’t be trusted.

Great post. Sowell’s distinction between association and alliance is crucial to understanding the validity of a campaign strategy that some would deem unsavory. But it is the unsavory alliances of Obama that make such a strategy necessary and legitimate. Focus on alliances when discussing these issues with friends, family, and neighbors.

Dr. Sowell nailed it with the word alliance, it is precisely his association with Ayers, Wright and Rezco.
