The Real Obama (Sowell on Obama)
Jewish World Review ^ | October 7, 2008 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 10/06/2008 6:13:57 PM PDT by jazusamo

Critics of Senator Barack Obama make a strategic mistake when they talk about his "past associations." That just gives his many defenders in the media an opportunity to counter-attack against "guilt by association."

We all have associations, whether at the office, in our neighborhood or in various recreational activities. Most of us neither know nor care what our associates believe or say about politics.

Associations are very different from alliances. Allies are not just people who happen to be where you are or who happen to be doing the same things you do. You choose allies deliberately for a reason. The kind of allies you choose says something about you.

Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger, William Ayers and Antoin Rezko are not just people who happened to be at the same place at the same time as Barack Obama. They are people with whom he chose to ally himself for years, and with some of whom some serious money changed hands.

Some gave political support, and some gave financial support, to Obama's election campaigns, and Obama in turn contributed either his own money or the taxpayers' money to some of them. That is a familiar political alliance— but an alliance is not just an "association" from being at the same place at the same time.

Obama could have allied himself with all sorts of other people. But, time and again, he allied himself with people who openly expressed their hatred of America. No amount of flags on his campaign platforms this election year can change that.

Unfortunately, all that most people know about Barack Obama is his own rhetoric and that of his critics. Moreover, some of his more irresponsible critics have made wild accusations— that he is not an American citizen or that he is a Muslim, for example.

Alliances indeed, Mr. Sowell, thank you.

Who is The Real Barack Obama?

Obama's "Unholy Alliance" -- Marxist Radicalism in support of Islamist Radicalism

The Cloward-Piven Strategy
Alinsky's "Luciferian" Rules Tactics

Click the links -- Send them to everyone: media, elected officials of all parties, campaign organizers, friends, family, neighbors -- the naive and unsuspecting Obama supporters you know.

Read the evidence indicating that Barack Obama seeks to grow government either directly into socialism, or into economic collapse, in order to bring an ACORN-agitated Socialist revolution. That was the goal of Saul Alinsky. That is the Cloward-Piven Strategy apparently of Frank Marshall Davis, Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour, ACORN, William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, et. al., who have played such essential roles in the development of both the private and public Barack Obama.

James Simpson, a former White House economist, has just published "Barack Obama & the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis" - on AmericanThinker.com at http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/barack_obama_and_the_strategy.html

Listen to this Interview of James Simpson, by Sandy Rios, Tuesday 9/30 - WYLL 1160AM, Chicago, IL
From http://www.culturecampaign.com/culturecorner.aspx

Further documentation connecting the dots of all the neo-Marxists who have invested in the development of Barack Obama may be found on discoverthenetworks.org

Simpson documents his research in his article, providing Web links. He provides a rough flow chart.

"CHANGE"

Let's change things for these murderous Marxists.

Give everyone in America a new vocabulary term: The Cloward-Piven Strategy.

And I have a question to the Obama investigators out there: Is it possible for someone to have roughly projected the time of the mortgage crisis -- with one or more banks? Based upon such data as default projections, could it have been possible to even trigger it? Herbert and Marion Sandler, in 2006, for example?

Further corrobration on Obama & The Cloward-Piven Strategy:

Obama, Voter Fraud & Mortgage Meltdown, by James H. Walsh, former federal prosecutor.

More on the the Islamist/Radical side:

Barack Obama & Raila Odinga, Marxist & Islamist cousin of Obama, despotic leader in Kenya

Barack Obama & Khalid Al-Mansour, old Black Panther friend of Ayers & Dohrn, who raised funds to get Obama into Harvard

I've read Freddoso’s book and it is a very informative read, chocked full of factual evidence...just as Dr. Sowell said, how Obama managed to rise so quickly in politics is quite remarkable, given the assistance he received from the likes of John Stroger, Emil Jones, and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.

McCain has got to get Obama to answer the question of EXACTLY when and where he met Bill Ayers, and what exactly did he and Ayers do together.

Obama could then be caught in a lie, perhaps with videotape or testimony of someone with the truth.

Excerpted - “Obama could have allied himself with all sorts of other people. But, time and again, he allied himself with people who openly expressed their hatred of America. No amount of flags on his campaign platforms this election year can change that.”

This, for all intents and purposes, is my standard answer, when asked why my opposition to Barack Obama is so visceral.

I think I will put it on a T-shirt.

No it can be blamed on Bush's "new tone" lunacy when he appointed Paulson a Democrat from Goldman Sachs...There's a photo of him (Paulson) somewhere with a parade of Democrats behind him, all smiling like cats eating shit.

Paulson was/is the October surprise and Bush fell for it hook line and sinker. Am I the only one that sees that?

My guess is that well over 85 percent of the likely voters have already decided.

The remaining battle is is on the last 15 percent.

The future argument may hold much power on this group. Thus they should be reminded that future tax rate increases will kill many of their future jobs.

The avalanche of job loss could be huge. Like when the ecos shut down logging, commercial fishing, mining...operations. The whole area suffers as the primary wage earners stop visiting restaurants, retail...businesses. Then the secondary wage earners lose their jobs too...

Once these good paying jobs are lost locally, they may disappear for the next generation or three.

BO and 61 Dummie Senators would put a fork in their jobs and their kids can forget about college...

That book is titled "The Case Against Barack Obama" by David Freddoso

I just read through the first 120 pages of this which details his days as a state senator and how he has essentially never had to run a against anyone credible--the closest he's really ever had is against Alan Keyes, and even though I like Alan, he was cannon fodder in that race.

For those of you who that care, do a quick search for the name Emil Jones. That should be enough to get you hopping mad.

that he is not an American citizen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Someone should write Thomas and indicste the difference between "citizenship" and the constitutional requirement that a presidential candidate be "natural born" in the United States.

Obama has not revealed a Certificate of Live Birth and continues to refuse to do so. A little odd, seeing as he must spend thousands of dollars to defend a case in a Pennsylvania Federal Court, brought by Attorney Berg, which claims that Obam is not a "natural born" American.

Thomas Sowell is so wise, he's too wise to get into the institution of politics. But his insights are like gold nuggets in a field of coal lumps:

David Freddoso's book should be read by those people who want to know what the facts are. But neither this book nor anything else is likely to change the minds of Obama's true believers, who have made up their minds and don't want to be confused by the facts.

I’m amazed that you have to ask! ... Schumer had insider information of the financial institutions on the verge of failure. He mere pushed the first domino his committee knew would fall into the others. Lest we forget, the Democrat party has been more than willing to empower themselves via the slaughter of alive unborn children. Do you doubt they would sacrifice your financial security to achieve final control when the entire world is being drawn into a financial catastrophe the Democrats actually engineered for failure because of their socialist beliefs?

Past associations or past alliances, whatever you call them, are tremendously important because they indicate characer and character goes to TRUST. It is trust that is of utmost importance in our elected officials. For example, in January there will be a new Sec. of the Treasury who will be in control of the 850 billion congress has just voted to spend.

How important is it that the new Sec. Treasury be a man we can trust to properly administer this money?

Some gave political support, and some gave financial support, to Obama's election campaigns, and Obama in turn contributed either his own money or the taxpayers' money to some of them. That is a familiar political alliance— but an alliance is not just an "association" from being at the same place at the same time.

Obama could have allied himself with all sorts of other people. But, time and again, he allied himself with people who openly expressed their hatred of America. No amount of flags on his campaign platforms this election year can change that.

What a crystal clear expression of the issue. I hope it gets out to the people.

Dr. Sowell has a marvelous ability to get right to the heart of things. Palin and McCain need to change to the word alliances, because there truly is a significant difference.

Americans are being frighteningly naive about Senator Obama, never seeming to question that the puppeteers who have programmed and introduced him onto the American stage have a plan for this nation that does not coincide with the ideals of the Declaration and United States Constitution.

The liberty of millions yet unborn hangs in the balance in this election, and between now and Election Day, someone needs to expose those who control Obama's agenda.

So very true...After the millions wasted that he was partly in control of as a community organizer I wouldn’t trust him to appoint someone to control five cents worth of taxpayer dollars let alone billions.

Not only that though, it is evident he has lied to all Americans on many things and a man with no integrity can’t be trusted.

Great post. Sowell’s distinction between association and alliance is crucial to understanding the validity of a campaign strategy that some would deem unsavory. But it is the unsavory alliances of Obama that make such a strategy necessary and legitimate. Focus on alliances when discussing these issues with friends, family, and neighbors.

The moderator of the Palin-Biden debates, an “African-American woman is, we are told writing a book about the “new” African-American politician’s including Obama.

And her effort is not without much media attention about it either. Though, those of us who are not in “the media” must wonder if people like Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of Maryland or Kenneth Blackwell, former Ohio Secretary of State and former (2006) Ohio GOP Candidate for Governor will be in her book.

But, while we all so ever anxiously await that book - not - we could wonder (if we were ignorant) where all her media friends are when we have an African-American Presidential candidate and one of America’s most prolific, most intelligent economic commentators has had so much to say about Obama, but the media pretends that he, Thomas Sowell, does not exist.

We must assume that they, and Obama, are deathly scared of Sowell, because he not only demolishes Obama, intellectually, he demolishes the myth that to be a great African-American with a great intellect one must be a liberal.

"Moreover, some of his more irresponsible critics have made wild accusations— that he is not an American citizen or that he is a Muslim, for example.

All that such false charges do is discredit Obama's critics in general"

The false charges further serve to neutralize legitimate criticism of Obama, from any critic, as Dr. Sowell suggests. I agree with Dr. Sowell's comments and have since the beginning of the campaign. Some people on the right, very much need to heed this lesson.

I was well aware of Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams (as well as other black conservatives) while in college. I used BOTH of their writings as a basis for a class presentation in a Black Relations Sociology course I took while a major in Sociology. Of course none of the students had ever heard of either of them.

While they have achieved some notoriety among conservatives and SOME well educated blacks (who consider them traitors) for the quality of their work and outstanding accomplishments, it is pitifully meager among the black population who largely ignores them as you rightly pointed out, Wuli. They were still pretty young, when I first discovered them. Now, they have lived a life time.

I was wondering just a few days ago, how they must feel that a lifetime's worth of excellent work has been so ignored by the African American population, and how they found the courage, stamina and fortitude to keep going. It is impossible to put into words the tremendous admiration I feel for them. They are heroes in every sense of the word.

No, Wuli, I don't expect Gwen will include Michael Steele, and other black politicians like him in her book. But perhaps there is a black conservative of current or future notoriety who will.

It is an absolute shame more African-American people have not come to look up to them and listen to them, they have so much more to offer than the Jackson’s, Sharpton’s and Wright’s.

What is amazing to me, as a conservative, is how racist liberals actually are and how their only defense against a man like Sowell is that he’s, to them, some kind of “Oreo” (black on the outside, white on the inside).

It also amazes me that we are told by liberals that “blacks” need someone like Obama in order to “have someone to look up to”, yet they don’t want blacks to “look up to Sowell”, and further, you and I look up to Sowell, but we are racist?

Communication today is ruled by doublespeak.

Quoting from your linked source (because I think it's worth emphasizing and thinking about):

In an interview with Nicholas Kristof, published in The New York Times, Obama recited the Muslim call to prayer, the Adhan, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent."

The opening lines of the Adhan (Azaan) is the Shahada:

"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that Muhammad is his prophet... "

According to Islamic scholars, reciting the Shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith, makes one a Muslim. This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim's complete acceptance of, and total commitment to, the message of Islam.

Obama knows this from his Quranic studies -- and he knows the New York Times will publish this fact and it will be seen throughout the Islamic world.

Regardless of Obama's religion, what message is he sending the world's 1.2 billion Muslims
?

(Emphasis added.)

For Obama to recite that particular Moslem prayer to a New York Times reporter in an attributed quote, was a major, major indiscretion if it was inadvertent ..... and something a hell of a lot more serious if it was deliberate.

Your source also notes that the original Nicholas Kristof article has disappeared from the NYT website into Pinchy's "memory hole", but it is fortunately preserved elsewhere.

. . . guilt by association . . .
When you talk about those with whom a politician associates, you are talking about the type of person who that politician can be expected to name to important positions of authority.

One thing to send someone to jail because of his associations - and quite another to commit the folly of electing him president of the United States despite his associations. And of course Sowell is right in saying that the "associations" in question go far beyond mere happenstance.
