Cancer Vaccine Used by 25% of Girls 13 to 17 (BARF)
New York Times ^ | 10/09/2008

ATLANTA (AP) — One in four teenage girls have received the relatively new vaccine against cervical cancer, federal health officials said Thursday.

The figures represent the government’s first substantial study of vaccination rates for the vaccine, Gardasil, which is Merck & Company’s heavily advertised three-shot series that goes after the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus, or HPV. The vaccine protects against strains of the virus that cause about 70 percent of cervical cancers.

Health officials recommend that girls get the shots when they are 11 or 12, if possible, before they become sexually active. Also, 11 is the age when children are generally due for a round of vaccinations.

-SNIP-

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based the study on household telephone surveys in late 2007. The survey results cover from when the vaccine came on the market, in mid-2006, to when the survey questions were answered.

The results are based on nearly 3,000 girls ages 13 to 17 for whom the researchers could verify vaccination information through medical records.

I guarantee you that girls aren't making decisions on sexual matters based on whether or not they have a vaccine for a rare disease.

_______________________________

You could not be more wrong.

This vaccine is to help prevent a STD. And the mindset behind this drive to force gardasil on our girls is to ASSUME they are sexually active.

And the more active they are the more $$$$ Merck is rolling in. And meantime, other STD’s are being transmitted that this HPV vaccine does nothing for.

Not to mention the many more babies to be conceived.

Abstinence works. It does no good to tell our children no, but have a condom anyway.

Don't have sex, but have this vaccine anyway.

Outrageous.

I have 4 daughters. Two teens, one almost 18 and one 16. Another who is almost 13 and one who is almost 11.

“no one is denying the increase in teen sex that follow.”

Teen sex will follow an immunization shot? And here I always thought teen sex just happens when teens decide to have sex. I don’t think they’ll be an increase in teen sex because of some shot.

I don’t think an immunization shot will cause more teen girls to engage in pre-marital sex. I doubt that any getting this shot will think they’re immune from contracting any of the number of Cancers.

Say some girl has sex, and the boy she has sex with carries this, or is infected with this virus...and it doesn’t matter if this is her first time/when it happens (could be she’s a virgin when she marries but he’s carrying or infected with this virus). She’s not doing anything yet gets infected.

This shot isn’t going to give a pass or a reason to teens to do what they’ve been doing forever.

The pill, condoms, etc. didn’t make me have pre-marital sex. I didn’t have it because I was taught not to and believed what I was taught. And, my husband had tons of pre-marital sex. He was also taught not to. Didn’t matter one iota to him at the time.

Get real here, the vaccine might save lives. If you have information that it is not safe, post it.

I follow your logic. I really do.

So... What brand of condoms do you buy for your daughters?

I read a statistic that over 60% of girls that graduate High School have been exposed to HPV.

Obviously the fear of the disease is doing nothing to prevent teen sex.

No.

And, I recall my high school and college years well.

It’s certainly not easy, when in the throes (sp) of passion. All that kissing, touching and feeling FEELS great.

And, I went to an all-girl Catholic High School. What, are we supposed to isolate our kids so they have no contact with the opposite sex?

I do think our “culture”, tv, movies, etc. encourage this free sex for all stuff. But it’s up to parents to teach their kids. And even when parents teach their kids, sometimes kids just don’t listen. It’s up to kids to make decisions, some right and some wrong.

FYI, I am married to my one and only, and he is married to his one and only, in every sense.

I still got the vaccine (one of the first to do so). There is always rape. Cervical cancer is one of the ugliest ways to go, and one of the most painful conditions out there, and if it can be prevented... heck yes. Just like with the Hep shots... even if you live a very clean life it can be all over if you step on a dirty needle at the beach.

To quote Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park, "Nature will find a way" The HPV virus is very common and many people are exposed to it without being sexually active.

Another reason to consider the benefit of a vaccination?

Who is to say that now the virus won't mutate making this vaccine pointless in 20 or so years..

The people who die between now and then.

Also this is only one form of cancer and it doesn't prevent all forms of it as well.

Hells bells, this is one of the stupidest comments I've read in a while. In essence what you are saying is that since the vaccine doesn't prevent all types of cancer, it is useless? I hope not. Vaccines do nothing more than trigger a response by the body to kill a specific virus. Unfortunately, cancers are the result of multiple mechanisms, most of which have nothing to do with viruses.

To think that since a vaccine which might reduce a specific cancer is not a cure all for cancers somehow makes that vaccine less valuable is unintelligent at best.

How many women will no longer get pelvic exams because they think they are safe?

The stupid ones.

If the vaccine manufacturer, or any associated information, advertising, or advice, in any way shape or form infers that women should reduce their health screenings or checkups please post such information.

Oh snap! LOL. Low blow.

Bite me.

I don’t buy condoms for my daughters. I hope and PRAY that I’m teaching them to make decisions, know the consequences of their actions. So far, it’s working. No pre-marital sex as far as I know (and mommy knows everything). Stay strong. Follow your Faith. Don’t follow the “crowd.”

So, what century are you living in?

Just askin’

This is an outrage, to endanger the lives of every girl in the country for the sake of Drug pusher’s profits.

The death rate for the vaccine already exceeds the cancer rate for cervical papiloma by two orders of magnitude. This is first degree murder.

What about the scores of other diseases you can get from being sexually active? I was forced to get the Hep B vaccine back in 7th grade yet I don't go shooting up drugs because now I am safe. This vaccine will do the same thing. Also cervical cancer is on the rare side, on par with the total amount of sarcomas diagnosed every year.

Also I didn't mean all types of cancer I meant all forms of cervical cancer. They call it a cancer vaccine which is very misleading. It is like calling an EBV vaccine (which doesn't exists) a lymphoma vaccine.

Results 1 - 10 of about 425,000 for hpv vaccine deaths __________________________________ Enjoy.

From the results you linked to:

Fifteen deaths were reported to the FDA, and 10 were confirmed, but the CDC says none of the 10 were linked to the vaccine. The CDC says it continues to study the reports of illness.

Got anything substantive? Maybe from a real medical journal and not a google search?

Just as an FYI - will probably trust the life of my daughter to someone trained in the medical profession and not somebody who googles "hpv vaccine deaths"

Nothing personal, just prefer expert advice when it comes to the health of my loved ones...

I thank you for that link. And even though there are many liberals on this thread tonight that think this HPV vaccine (and all the sex that comes with it) is okee-dokee for their children, I have problems with it.

From the link:

HPV vaccinations may not only be medically useless; they may also be harmful to the health of the young girls receiving them.

This report reveals startling facts about the HPV vaccine that most people will find shocking:

• How it may actually increase the risk of precancerous lesions by 44.6 percent.

• The FDA has, for four years, known that HPV was not the cause of cervical cancer.

• Why mandatory HPV vaccination policies may cause great harm to young girls.

• Why HPV infections are self-limiting and pose no real danger in healthy women

• Little-known FDA documents that reveal astounding facts about Gardasil

• How Big Pharma promoted its Gardasil vaccine using disease mongering and fear mongering

“The stupid ones”

It always comes back to the stupid ones.

How anyone can think this vaccine protects them from all cancers or all STDs, amazes me. How anyone can think this vaccine gives an “ok” to engage in premarital sex, amazes me. Or how anyone can think this vaccine will increase pre-marital or teen sex, amazes me.

I thought long and hard (cliche)about this vaccine. About having my two teens get it...the two younger ones haven’t yet...what sold me was boys carrying the virus, and their doctor, a friend, recommending it.

It’s not going to make my kids go out and have sex. If they’re gonna have sex before marriage, they’re gonna have it regardless of this vaccine. Teens were having sex way before this vaccine, lol.

I understand what you are saying. I do.

You and the CDC are in lockstep together. Whatever they say is fine with you. I get it.

I’m asking a lot of FReepers a question tonight. Have I asked you?

Are YOU doing what the CDC, Planned Parenthood, and other liberals want? Are you providing your children with condoms?

Cause they WILL have sex, dontcha know.

One of my daughters had a reaction to the Menigitis(sp) vaccine. She fainted/passed out. We should outlaw that one. rme.
