Missouri State University Students Vandalize Campus Pro-Life Cross Display

Springfield, MO (LifeNews.com) -- Student vandals at Missouri State University wrecked a pro-life cross memorial on the school’s Blair-Shannon Lawn on Wednesday, October 1. Some students cheered from a nearby sidewalk as others deliberately stepped on the crosses and one student rode his bike through the display.

Bears for Life (BFL), a student group that received assistance from the Leadership Institute in Arlington, Virginia, hosted the Graveyard of Innocents, a memorial of nearly 4,000 popsicle-stick crosses to represent the number of unborn babies killed by abortion each day.

One BFL volunteer who witnessed the incident captured some of the vandalism on video.

Phillip Gleeson, president of Bears for Life commented, “I was shocked by the immaturity and lack of respect displayed by some members of the pro-choice community at Missouri State University.”

When a BFL student leader confronted the vandals and asked them why they felt free to destroy a university-approved display, one replied, “It’s campus property; we can walk where we want.” The delinquents continued to trample the crosses as they left.

Another student rode through the makeshift cemetery on his bike to further damage the memorial. He refused to comment on camera about his actions.

Jenny Newcomer, an active member of Bears for Life, said, “It’s just appalling how disrespectful people can be.”

Missouri State University initially opposed the Graveyard of Innocents event. School administrators claimed the popsicle sticks to be used in the memorial could damage the sprinkler irrigation system on the North Mall.

It took group members seven hours to dig holes in the parched ground of the lawn approved by the administration. The Leadership Institute provided the pro-life group with tools and popsicle sticks for their pro-life event.

Bears for Life is an independent, student group at Missouri State University which strives to educate students about the pro-life movement and the sanctity of life from birth to natural death. Several of the group’s members received activism, grassroots, and campaign training from LI.

Daniel Diaz, LI field representative for Missouri and Kansas, said, “The Leadership Institute provided Bears for Life with a box of materials for recruiting. Later this semester, LI will assist the group to bring a speaker to their campus through a donor-supported grant.”

Just another generation practicing the liberal-Nazi techniques they have been taught on local campus outings so they will be experienced and ready to stomp out any idea they disagree with in the larger post collegiate world.

Remember when colleges still tried to pretend they were interested in teaching students independent thought as opposed to brainwashing generation after generation with hard core liberal dogma?

Look, you have to take their picture or a video of them. You should expect to have to do so, and bring along a camera. It is also good to have some innocuous looking device for self-defense in case you are attacked.

But the pictures are important. If possible, widely distribute them on the Internet. And since you can make them public domain, you are under no obligation to not Photoshop them if you want, to make the student look foolish and weird, and hopefully to embarrass him.

Probably the most embarrassing thing would be to make it look like he was unaware that his genitalia were exposed while doing this.

And if he gets upset and complains, you have identified him, and can turn it right back against him by claiming you have contacted the police, and they likely intend to arrest him.

This will give him a day or two to contemplate the error of his ways.

Yes. (Hanging my head in shame.) Idiots. There was no ‘Bears For Life’ group when I was on campus. I volunteered at the Missouri Right to Life office, entering donations.

He may have had a child that was aborted and he was largely responsible. If so, he has lots of self hatred sublimated to those that inadvertently point to his guilt. He must turn on them or himself. He needs to know God's forgiveness. One would have to be careful when helping him to realize his guiltiness and his need for God's forgiveness. He probably has limited. ability to come to terms. People angry such as he may be suicidal.

The other side of the story:

[snip]

The night after their protest, people ran around kicking their popsicle crosses over and correcting their blatantly false signs. Surprisingly, this was just what the Bears For Life wanted to happen. They were lurking around the whole night with a camera phone, trying to catch people messing with their stuff. As soon as a few outraged and offended kids took the bait, they ran around complaining to every media source they could find with their unviewably dark camera phone videos. You can find them on YouTube, if you want. Sadly, it made the front page of the last edition of The Standard.

I decided to do a bit of research. As it turns out, the Bears For Life only had the Blair-Shannon lawn reserved until 10 p.m. on Wednesday night. So, if I understand correctly, that means that all of their unattended, weird little cemetery lies were considered trash after 10 p.m. I suggest that if the Bears For Life don't want their garbage Godzilla'd and corrected, they shouldn't leave it lying around.

So here's the moral of the story, kids: next time, don't mess with their stuff; report it to Groundskeeping, and see if they'll fine them for littering.
