PHILADELPHIA (AFP) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday thanked his Republican rival John McCain for urging supporters to be respectful and stop hurling abuse at Obama at his rallies.

"Now, I want to acknowledge that Senator McCain tried to tone down the rhetoric yesterday in his town hall meeting and I appreciate his reminder that we can disagree while still being respectful of each other," Obama said.

That’s for damn sure.

Today Sarah is bringing up Obama trying to talk Iraqi leaders out of a deal with the US for victory in the war with informing people he put ‘ambition over country’! I want to thank Gov. Palin for being the ONLY one fighting for this country. McCain can go to hell with Obama.

It's concerns that this episode may be laying the groundwork for a future Obama Kristnallacht on conservative 'hate speech'.

Imagine some agitprop event (e.g. some plant making a staged attempt on Obama, or some other quasi-terrorist act). Then it's time to scapegoat the entire conservative movement, and voila, here's the Fairness Doctrine - with leftist interpretations of 'balance', and then you can say adios to political free speech.

I fear McCain has already walked into a trap, tacitly giving cover to the idea that frank talk is inappropriate, and that his supporters need to be reigned in, and I can see this being used later.

“Hey I love Indian country!!”

:) And it chaps me to no end (as I’m sure it chaps you) that the fascists have stormed into it with their vile hate and oppression, and are quickly destroying it. Ergo, we need to go in and take it back. Patriots such as yourself will be instrumental to that effort. Welcome to the fight!

I’m discouraged to say it, but McCain fails to understand the nature of this battle. Obama and his ilk do understand.

This is war.

This is authoritarian socialism vs capitalism and free market economy. This is political correctness vs truth. This is individual freedom vs collective welfare.

This war was declared by Obama and his secret(read foreign) backers, who seek revolution and change with no respect to our founding fathers and our precious history.

We cannot respond repectfully toward this enemy and expect to win. The mutual respect McCain envisions is a hoax.

If you think McCain is fighting, then I have to assume you’ve been beaten up a lot!

Palin is fighting. “Bipartisan Juan” is leading with his face.
