Even New Jerseyans can't stand living in New Jersey, according to a new poll that said nearly half of adults residing in the Garden State want to pull up stakes.
The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll, released Wednesday, found 49 percent of those polled would rather live somewhere else.

Poll participants cited high property taxes (28 percent), the cost of living (19 percent), state taxes (5 percent) and housing costs (6 percent) as the main reasons they want out. The poll also found that 51 percent of those who expressed a desire to leave planned to do so, with adults under the age of 50 making between $50,000 and $100,000 the most likely to flee.
"If you have the ability to leave and you don't see any possibility for change with the way the state is run and that's the No. 1 issue here you have to vote with your feet," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

"It's no wonder that New Jersey is a national joke," he said. "We've done it to ourselves with these just positively irresponsible policies."

That migration depleted the state's tax coffers of an estimated $10 billion in personal income and $680 million in sales tax, according to the Rutgers report.
"This really illustrates among a lot of other things that the public has thrown up their hands," Murray said. "They don't feel that there's anything they can do that would change the situation."
(snip)
"One can only hope that the pendulum will stop swinging this way and start moving back the other way 'cause if it doesn't, you're going to see 9 million people suffer," he said.
"Or you're going to see the last person over the Delaware turn out the lights."

You Lie! Mississippi is like heaven on earth. A beautiful state where everyone is friendly and just dying to hear the way you did things in New Jersey and to be instructed in the ways of New Jersey.
Now North Carolina is the true armpit of the South, hot, dirty, unlivable even in the few places not yet ruined by the continuous hurricanes and floods, so just keep moving when you pass through on I95. Gas is fifty dollars a gallon and the inbred yokels will steal the tires from your car if you as much as slow down, for God's sake keep going and don’t look back.
Looks nice! I’m packing up even as we speak!
I would like a conservative migration before the next census -— stip the Dhims of electoral votes.
It would appear I inadvertently posted footage from Detroit instead... forgive me.
I grew up in South Jersey. Left about 17 years ago. My older brother lives in Salem NJ and travels I-95 outside of Philly 5 days a week for his job commute. He looks beat down. Bridge tolls just went up. Ain't it great!!
Yes, that is Plano, an upscale Dallas neighborhood.
Very unsafe. Must be armed at all times. Mandatory religion classes, followed by pledge of allegence to the Confederacy.
Texas...Dust storms, hurricanes, coyotes sneaking in the house and peeing on the couch, eagles carrying off small dogs and cats, snakes especially the flying ones, jackalopes sneaking up and horning you in the rear, you will need to buy a .22 to kill some of the bugs too.
ha! I joined the Marine Corps (in 1982) to get out of NJ...and haven’t lived there since. I go back to visit family and am glad not to live there.
It does bother me though, to a small degree, why I should have to leave the state I grew up because of corruption and taxes.
Hey! Will you shut up!
I don’t want a bunch of liberals ruining my state!
We don’t want them here! PERIOD!
Look what liberal New Yorkers did to Vermont!
Liberalism is a virus that infects everything it touches. It wreaks havoc, then moves on to the next host. You see it everywhere, once great places like NJ, NY, California. You see it in all the major cities, the urban school districts. Underachievement, crime, drugs, taxes, welfare, illegal immigration, corruption.
It’s a disease that doesn’t have enough conservatism to vaccinate and stop its spread.
NJ is a glittering, shining example of liberalism at work. New Orleans, LA ditto. But yet Americans want to vote for this kind of excrement on a national level?
Many people have a perception of Paris as a beautiful city, but coming into town from the north on the train it looks just like North Korea or China or Moscow. Then you get near the monuments in downtown and there is dog sh!t everywhere, it stinks, and every garbage bag/can is overflowing. Homeless people sleeping everywhere.
Americans need to quit buying the grass is greener, shiny brochure for the “security” and the “stress-free” life of socialism, IT IS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!
I thought New York took the title./Just Asking - seoul62........
That’s why they call New Jersey the armpit of the United States.
Hmmm. Nice handcart...
the boroughs outside manhattan for sure. I have never been upstate so I couldn’t comment there.
We use it for the bodies of the plague victims.
A lot of us are going to be moving to other states after the 0bama victory. I moved here (NH) because it was once a Repub. state and at least fiscally conservative. You can’t blame me that it’s changed, and you can’t blame me for wanting to go someplace where I won’t see Obama signs and Obammunists every day.
If the libs move, I’ll stay. Otherwise, count me in the “I want out” column. Of course, my wife isnt going anywhere. I suspect I’d save a bit in taxes even with alimony and child support but I’d need to run it past my accountant. Ahh, too much trouble.... I guess I’ll stay.
