Did Sarah Palin Score on Saturday Night Live?
TV Guide ^

Posted on 10/19/2008 12:40:50 AM PDT by Chet 99

Sarah Palin made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live this week, and though her parts were small, she proved to have a great sense of humor about herself.

The republican vice presidential candidate first showed up in the opening portion of the show, behind the scenes with Lorne Michaels as they watched Tina Fey play Palin in a press conference sketch. After all the ribbing she's taken on the show, Palin did get one little dig in at Fey, if indirectly. Palin asked Michaels why they couldn't do a 30 Rock sketch, and Michaels said, "Not enough people know the show."

Her second appearance was in the Weekend Update portion of the show, where she danced along (while seated) to Amy Poehler rapping about being vice president – the funniest part being the two Eskimo backup rappers and Jason Sudeikis dressed in a race suit as Palin's husband, Todd.

Palin wasn't the only guest star to appear in this week's episode, which was hosted by W. star Josh Brolin: Mark Wahlberg settled his score with Andy Samberg, Alec Baldwin got to meet Palin (after thinking she was Tina), calling her "hotter in person," while Oliver Stone plugged his movie, W., about the current commander in chief.

What did you think of Sarah Palin's performance? Did she win you over? Read our in-depth recap and weigh in now!

They really didn’t give her anything funny to do. Not a surprise. Nobody had anything funny to do. There wasn’t even a giggle in 90 minutes of wasted airtime.

I was a tech at NBC back in 1976 (?) and was in the studio during the first SNL broadcast. It was mildly amusing. I don’t think I’ve watched three episodes since, but after last night I see that I haven’t missed anything.

she was great and we shall see the ratings.

First time I seen it for many years.

Luckly it came on right after my Rays lost to Boston.

"The rest of SNL was funny as a funeral. Grade-school humor about farts and such. Unfunny. So sad, it was a great show in its prime."

I've been to four funerals this year and every one of them had more laughs than SNL.

The last thing I was going to do was to watch this on television live, or even Tivo it. I watched it on youtube this morning.

Not funny. I think Palin made a mistake in appearing on the show. She is already a laughingstock in the liberal’s eyes. This just reinforces that. Who is in charge of Palin’s media appearances? Am wondering if there is an Obama mole on her staff.

How about her going on Jay Leno’s show? That would be more advantageous to her, and it would give her a chance to talk seriously about what she is trying to accomplish.

Thumbs down on SNL.

You absolutely hit it right on the nose: She was born for such a time as these. God has his hand on Sarah. I pray every day that He will continue to guide, guard, and undergird her - and He does. Praise God for Sarah Palin. We have found the new Reagan — and she wears a skirt!

The 2 actors she faced at the start of the show would not even look at her. How insulting.

I think the idiots were reading their lines.

One was an actor - Alec Baldwin, the other is the producer of SNL - Lorne Michael.

They were both reading their cue cards, that's why they weren't looking at her. Apparently Palin went through the trouble of memorizing her lines, so she didn't have to stare off into the void like the other two.

I find I am always waiting for him to make his next grammatical or pronunciation error.

Except Sarah says "new-kew-ler." too.

Why can't grown-up adults learn to speak?

Think she has fixed that. She pronounced it correctly in Indiana Friday.

You must remember the “FIRST” pol to ridicule himself on TV (ON PURPOSE that is)...
R M Nixon on “LAUGH IN” in the continuing ‘Sock it to Me’ segments...The first was naturally the funniest but he kept coming back for more.....

Sad when the GOP is so desperate that they had her appear on that trashy show

At least they could save their dignity

I wish she had refused —I would have had more confidence in her judgement

Sarah was fantastic on SNL last night! Just the right amount of participation. She didn’t make a fool of herself or let them make her out to be a fool. She is so much more beautiful than Tina Fey that I’ll bet Tina cried herself to sleep last night.

Boy has Alex Baldwin lost his good looks! The years have not been kind to him!

“Could Sarah handle this ? Could Sarah handle that ? Yahda Yahda Yahda...”

Yeah, and what even is the point of asking that? The question is can Obama handle that?

I posted this earlier on another SNL thread. It is from an email I received this morning from a liberal journo expat who watched online.

My god, I can’t tell whether the tears are from the laughter or from weeping with joy.

A Veep who’s “hot”? Never thought I’d see the day.

And funny, too.

Now, if they win, have to work on some of their mistakenly too-conservative positions.

But what a wonderful place the U.S. could become with Palin kicking McCain in the goolies under the oval office desk!

These people have LIVES instead of ideologies.

Never voted Republican before, but these two make me want to actually vote FOR THEM, instead of just against Obama.

Let’s see O laugh at being lampooned as a commie — as if any humour show (maybe Reason TV or Penn and Teller) would, or if O’s campaign would go along.

I’m gonna have a drink to this.

I unsubscribed to the alphabets years ago and didn’t feel like going out to the shop to watch on our one over-the-air set which barely brings in a station clearly.

If this person was swayed to vote *for* the GOP ticket, there were many more.
