Older Minnesota Voters Re-Think McCain; Obama Now On Top in Gopher State for 1st Time Since GOP Convention: In an election for President of the United States in Minnesota today, 10/19/08, sixteen days till votes are counted, Democrat Barack Obama defeats Republican John McCain 50% to 44%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, WDIO-TV in Duluth, KAAL-TV in Rochester, and KSAX-TV in Alexandria. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA tracking poll released 17 days ago, Obama is up 4 points; McCain is down 3. In three previous SurveyUSA polls since mid-August, Obama had received 46% to 49% of the vote, McCain 46% or 47%. This is the first time either candidate has reached 50%. Just after the Republican national convention, held in St. Paul, McCain led by 4 points among voters age 50+. Today, McCain trails by 12, a 16-point swing to the Democrat in 6 weeks. Among Independent voters, McCain had led by 9 just after the GOP convention, now trails by 6, a 15-point swing to the Democrat. There is movement to Obama among both men and women, and in the greater Twin Cities region.

It is hard to believe that McCain-Palin will be able to overcome the fraud machine in PA, maybe second only to IL in that respect. Yeah, yeah, I hear all of the stories about Rendell being a loyal Hillary supporter. But he's a DEM, and he may be well rewarded by getting Obama into the WH.

I could be mistaken about Hennepin County (Minneapolis) but my experience in Minnesota is that elections are clean. They take the integrity of the process very seriously IMHO.

Again, another person not in PA with misconstrued ideas about PA.

Kerry got PA by 140k votes with the fraud machine working full blast.. or 2.5% of the vote. Fauxbama does not have the machine or the base, he won’t win PA.

I’d be more worried about working on getting those fools out in Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Mt View to stop drinking the kool aid and wise up, than fretting about PA Fraud if I were you.

I don’t share your confidence, because MN is very blue. I doubt McCain will carry it.

My inlaws all live in MN (and they include numerous democrats). Based on what I’m hearing from them, Obama is not playing well in the suburbs. Many of their friends that supported Kerry & Gore will, under no circumstances, support “That One”.

I truly believe that MN is in play and this poll validates my thinking.

I’d be more worried about working on getting those fools out in Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Mt View to stop drinking the kool aid and wise up, than fretting about PA Fraud if I were you.

These people are hopeless, although San Jose leans more middle of the road than the folks north of San Jose through San Francisco into Marin Co.

I am a city clerk here in MN and I can attest to the fact that the voting systems in place here are some of the best in the country. A paper ballot record is kept of every vote cast and after every election 5% of precincts are randomly chosen to be fully audited to confirm that the tallies generated are accurate.

Furthermore, we do have a relatively good voter ID process and election judges have to declare their party identity - and equal numbers of each party must be present during the entire election process.

As for my view on whether or not the state is in play for McCain... it is a long shot given the population density in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the inner-ring suburbs; but it isn’t impossible. There is hardly any Obambi support in the outstate areas where I’m at.

I’ll be very curious to see what happens as a former resident of MN. I just don’t see the Iron Range going Obama’s way this election and without that I think even with the huge advantage in the Twin Cities that McCain has a real chance.

But fraud could play a role too...

I live in Rochester MN but work on the eastern seaboard. I think the Convention in the Twin Cities will help McCain in the state.

I am more worried about getting Coleman across the finish line. It would seem to me that this horrible Barkley person is siphoning votes from Norm and not from Franken. Would appreciate any update. God help us.

As a resident of St. Paul, I wondered for a long time if they were even printing McCain signs and bumper stickers. It’s all Obama all the time in St. Paul. How I would love to see the outstate areas carry the state for McCain!

I have a friend whose lawn sign says “Another Family for McCain.” I had to ask him, “Another? Where’s the first one?”
