Could Joe the Plumber become Joe the congressman?
Joe Wurzelbacher, the most famous plumber in America thanks to John McCain and Sarah Palin, told conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham Friday he's considering a run for Congress in 2010.
That would pit Wurzelbacher against longtime Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur for Ohio's 9th district on the state's northern border, which includes Toledo and Sandusky. "I'll tell you what, we'd definitely be in one heck of a fight, Marcy Kaptur definitely has a following in this area," he said of the possibility. "But, you know, I'd be up for it."
Wurzelbacher's chances would likely be slim. Kaptur has served in the district for 25 years, and remains a popular figure there. She won reelection in 2006 with nearly 75 percent of the vote and is expected to easily sail through another reelection this year.

She only appears strong because she’s not been challenged.
Quick, start a Late WRITE-IN petition - pass it on that Joe the Plumber should be their next Rep.
Nice. Unfortunately by then his ‘star’ won’t be so bright. But he probably would be able to raise some $ nationally, especially if McCain pulls this thing out, as he will be seen as having helped him out.
Hey, why not. He at least had the guts to stand up and ask the question so many were too afraid to ask.
This will be the hit on Joe:
MEMO to all Network Newsdesks: Hurry QUICK find out what this guys education background is. We think he made some F’s in Jr High and had a terrible GPA in High School. Maybe even flunked Shop Class.
Palin/Wurzelbacher 2012!! hehehe.
well,, i am one who honestly does beliee that old “first 535 names in the phone book” thing.
And to paraphase Don Imus about Sarah. Give me an true example as to how “Joe” could possibly do a worse job than the snakes we have up there currently?
Go for it Joe! It will be tough sledding though. She has only once get under 70% since 1984 and that was a 68%. Its hard to unseat 14 term incumbents. I’d imagine Joe can raise the money though with his fame. I guess a question is how good he is at the campaigning and how politically savvy he is. He’ll have to run a good one because its very hard to knock off an incumbent in the US. We re-elect what like 95% of them?
Joe seems like a nice fellow. I don’t think we need to run him for Congress.
Nothing personal. I hate that graphic. I think it makes us look small and petty like liberals, and trivializes the real arguments against the socialists who are running.
Just one opinion, worth everything it cost you.
Sorry it’s the NYT’s view of the Republican party. But I accept you comment in the spirit you made it.
“Joe seems like a nice fellow. I dont think we need to run him for Congress.”
I disagree, I think that we need every conservative congressman we can get, but that’s just me as they say.
Remember that when we get one, they also lose one, do you really prefer Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur?

For me it is personal.
It is more than just vulgar; and therefore, uncalled for.
Great graphic.
It’s not my district...they can run whoever they want. No, I wouldn’t prefer the Democrat...I would prefer most any Republican to a Dem, but I’m as opposed to celebrity being a basis for political legitimacy when it’s a Republican as I am when it’s a Democrat. If Joe has good policy sense, a conservative governing philosophy, and demonstrates a capacity to lead, then fine. If it’s just based on his current folk-hero fame, then that’s not a convincing basis for me.
A voice of reason, therefore you must be a troll. /s
