McCain Camp: 'Chris Matthews, Not A Constitutional Scholar'
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10/24/08 | John McCormack

Posted on 10/24/2008 2:37:12 PM PDT by DocT111

The McCain campaign issues a statement about Chris Matthews's latest mockery of Sarah Palin:

"Earlier this week Chris Matthews exhibited such a stunning combination of bias and ignorance that we feel compelled to set the record straight.

"Matthews mocked Governor Palin for telling a third grader that the Vice President is 'in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes.' Matthews said 'either she's right about the role of the vice presidency or I'm wrong.' Fortunately for the American people, Chris Matthews is wrong. Though it escaped comment at MSNBC, Joe Biden recently made a comment to the New Yorker promising to play a similar leadership role in the Senate. Biden told the magazine, 'I would see one of my jobs as essentially being the president of the Senate, in the sense of actually not presiding as much as interacting, continuing to interact, talking to Harry Reid every day, or talking to Nancy Pelosi.'

"Chris Matthews further elaborated on his understanding of the role of the Vice President, saying that 'it has nothing to do with policy making, nothing to do with Senate leadership on either side of the aisle. There is no policy role there whatever for the vice president. If you'd even watched 'John Adams' on television a few months ago, you would know that, going into the very beginning of our democracy.' We have little hope that MSNBC will take a more even handed approach in covering this race over these last few days, but it is outrageous that Chris Matthews would rely on an HBO mini-series as the basis for his condescending attacks on Governor Palin.

A number of years ago Chris Mathews had a plexiglass panel installed in his stomach so he could see where he’s going.

now weve all seen how MSNBC treats female politicians...the one nutcase actually got suspended for 10 days during the primaries....then Mattthews and the other psychotic got demoted. Gotta love Sarah though, she especially drives Matthews to really spray. TFF!

If someone broke Chrissy’s leg, would he get a tingle? Just wondering.

Chris Matthews is in desperate need of an intervention but it seems no one cares enough to take the trouble.

Kind of pathetic to be such a sot.

I wouldn’t blame Matthews for pointing to a miniseries, since this one was accurate, or as accurate as far as these things go, on the issue. Of course, he could have cunsulted a history book, but who has time to read these days?

Anyway, the problem is that Chrissy misinterprets what happened on that particular episode of “John Adams.” Adams went into his term as VP believing he would be a sort of figurehead. Where did he ever get that idea? The Constitution! He was shot down and barred from sepaking by a hoarde of people who didn’t want to be lectured at. That’s what we call an informal amendment, just like the informal amendment that made the VP a member of the executive branch.

I went and got my pocket Constitution when he was yapping and brought it upstairs to yell at the TV with my wife. She turned it off saying “how can you watch this crap?”

The Constitution (still upstairs so going from memory) says that the VP is the President of the Senate, but does not vote except in a tie....

The next sentence was something like...if the VP is incapacitated, the Senate shall elect a president ad hoc in order to fill positions and place assignments. (So - at least to me, that implies that the VP typically does that sort of thing. Or at least is supposed to under the constitution).

On the other hand, I told my kids that the VP position doesn’t mean a whole lot. At least while the president is living. I told them the important thing is that she will be in a better position to run for president in 2012. My one daughter asked “Why couldn’t Sarah have been the one running for President this time?” I told her I wished that as well! (But, she wasn’t very well-known, etc.)

Besides, Chris Matthews is an obnoxious hack who probably thinks he is brilliant. After all, he's on TV!

Most obnoxious hacks do think that they're brilliant. And besides just being on TV, he's got a loyal viewership that easily reaches into the dozens.

In watching the video as Sarah answers the question from a third grader. It is very obvious that she is answering the question as if she were talking directly to the third grader. So she does what every parent and grandparent has done many times she takes the answer and makes it into a basic overview of the job as a child would see it. Are all journalists just too damn educated to see how obvious this is.

If McCain wins like I think he will Someone could make one heck of a disk for sale with all the proceeds going to Kids with Special Needs. And that would be the expression on their faces when McCain wins from Chrissy fit, Uberman, Andrea M. and the entire Fakata Carnival of Liberal Clowns. You could title it the "Shadenfraude Disk"....

If Matthews had watched it he might know this is a republic not a democracy.
