Palin's 'going rogue,' McCain aide says

CNN) -- With 10 days until Election Day, long-brewing tensions between GOP vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin and key aides to Sen. John McCain have become so intense, they are spilling out in public, sources say. Several McCain advisers have suggested to CNN that they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin "going rogue."

A Palin associate, however, said the candidate is simply trying to "bust free" of what she believes was a damaging and mismanaged roll-out.

McCain sources say Palin has gone off-message several times, and they privately wonder whether the incidents were deliberate. They cited an instance in which she labeled robocalls -- recorded messages often used to attack a candidate's opponent -- "irritating" even as the campaign defended their use. Also, they pointed to her telling reporters she disagreed with the campaign's decision to pull out of Michigan.

A second McCain source says she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.

I have come to believe this was all part of the plan to get Obama elected. I believe McCain wants Obama elected and McCain doesn’t want any future rebel rousing conservatives in the Republican party, so he picked Sarah to his running mate with the plan of destroying her so she has no future in national politics.

If it wasn't true he needed to defend Sarah Palin and demonstrate directly unity in the Ticket.

The clear impression I get is that Palin is looking to win, while a lot of the McCain campaign is looking for scape-goats and members of the media to complain to. John McCain and Sarah Palin deserve better than the McCain campaign staff.

I suspect there might be some tension. I saw an excerpt of the Brian Williams interview and Sarah never answered the question about whether or not abortion bombers are terrorists...she just kept talking about Ayers. But when the same question was asked of McCain he quickly answered yes.

Sarah obviously didn’t want to get caught in a trap but I thought this was a situation where she could have said that any one out to kill innocent civilians is a terrorist. The whole thing illustrated how tough it must be to be the target of the nasty media. Maybe I’m wrong but this is the way it seemed to me.

She's just prepping the battleground for 2012. The Drive-by media was never going to play fair but McCain wasn't smart enough to recognize it until it is probably too late. Palin will either make the media play fair or destroy them but it will be their choice.
