An Obama victory seems like a forgone conclusion but don't be surprised if McCain manages to stage a huge political upset.
On election day 2004, David Corn and I spent part of the afternoon at a Starbucks near Boston's Copley Square, a couple of blocks from where John Kerry would hold his party that night.
For a few brief hours, a Kerry victory looked certain. We wondered whom Kerry might choose to fill his cabinet. And Corn lamented his decision to come to Boston rather than stay in Washington for George W. Bush's bash. Losers, he explained, are always more interesting.
So if you are a supporter of Barack Obama, you will have to forgive me today for spraying you with a blast of ice water.
Listen to me: Obama might lose.
As we head into the final days of the campaign - or the end times, as Sarah Palin might put it - let me count the ways by which McCain could pull this off.
1. Voter suppression. What do you think the McCain campaign's full-scale war against Acorn is all about? Acorn, a left-leaning activist organisation, has indeed engaged in voter registration fraud - or, rather, has had registration fraud perpetrated upon it by unscrupulous signature gatherers. But these phony voters are not going to be able to cast ballots unless they show up at the polls with some sort of valid identification.

2. The Bradley Effect.
How about this? When you sample 20% more democrat than republican, when that is not the demographic turnout at the polls nationally, you bias the numbers. When “Democrat” voters disappear from the actual results, it is because they were over sampled to begin with.
F’n race baiting Rat.
3. Smear and fear.
You mean like an October surprise about GW Bush being AWOL “and here are the documents to prove it, on the nightly news”?
You mean like innuendo that Mark Foley molested children (he did not have sex with minors, evangelical voters were shamed that he was a homosexual PERIOD but that wasn’t enough for Pelosi’s witchhunters).
How about the “response” that Obama had to the Ayers charge? They brought up the Keating 5. That lasted about a day but they did use that as their response.
He’s lying, and not by omission because he makes the charge that they DO require ID. He’s counting on his Brit audience not knowing the TRUTH.
It was fantastic. I tried to find it on YouTube but they only seem to have ones with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin
In the 2006 election, only 5.5% of all military votes cast were counted. We’ve already heard reports of military ballots being thrown in the garbage THIS election. Voter fraud/suppression indeed.
