You know its a big day on the McCain campaign when Mark Salter is smiling.
The senior aide to John McCain, known for his gruff demeanor, was practically giddy this morning on the campaign plane. He was cracking jokes with reporters and describing an optimistic atmosphere surrounding McCain.
"We feel like weve been saying all week. Were well within the margin or on top in all these battlegrounds, Salter said. We got a real good shot at catching the guy.

Smile while we call fellow voters, smile while we knock on doors, smile when we cast our ballots tomorrow, and smile while we watch the MSM self-destruct.
With caution, I am SMILING!
“If Salter is smiling, we should be to.”
That, of course, should be “too”. I’m still smiling though. :)
Good advice. Estoy sonriendo!
I’ll be smiling as I pull the lever for McCain/Palin tomorrow. I might also scratch my nose with my middle digit as I look at the Obama lever.
I posted in another thread that, last night at the NH Town Hall, I noticed how really happy everyone was who was coming off the campaign bus. Joe Lieberman was almost giddy.
McCain is playing one hell of an expectations game with the whole under dog and were behind but can catch him . ...
it helps get the vote out vs the other guy ..
who is declaring victory before the votes are counted.
Disclaimer: Grain of salt and all that.
I hope it’s not just gas.
I thought I was dreaming it, but no - there was Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly siting all the polls that had Obama way ahead.
Very depressing - until I got in the car to drive to work and listened to Rush.
I think McCain is in serious trouble. Pennsylvania is definitely a must win. Hopefully the polls are way off. I have heard the internal polls are tightening, I just hope there is enough time.
Surge baby surge! I feel it, too. Cautiously optimistic but I feel MCain is picking up the momo.
If he had won, it would have been interesting to see how many business and home owners, utility bill payers, and over $120k wage earners would have gotten religion over the next four years. My thought is that 22% would be more like 2% next time around.
I’m cautiously optimistic. I’ll celebrate when I see the tears of the media and closeup shots of Obama suporters with tears streaming down their faces.
We feel like weve been saying all week. Were well within the margin or on top in all these battlegrounds, Salter said. We got a real good shot at catching the guy.
...Salter perused the aisle of the campaign plane in the best spirits Washington Wire has seen in recent weeks.
I don't want happy talk, I want honesty. I sure hope Salter is sincere here. I have no reason to think he is not, so I will reluctant;y take this as a good sign. This coupled with the "Bob Krumm" article gives me an ever so slight tingle in my leg.
And the overhead/helicopter shots of them looting and burning.
He may just be punchy from lack of sleep.
But I think he knows that the trends are in McCain’s favor.
Hemmer and Kelly pretty much have to deliver the polls. I would hope that next time around FoxNews would simply make the case the polls are best wildly inaccurate, and at worst a propagandist figment of someone’s evil manipulative imagination, and refuse to broadcast them.
