Top evangelical scholar: Many evangelicals appalled McCain chose Palin
I recently asked John Stackhouse, an influential scholar on faith and politics at evangelical Regent College in Vancouver, what evangelicals are thinking about Sarah Palin. John, an author of many books and frequent contributor to Christianity Today, replied:
"Some evangelicals will support Sarah Palin because they are Republican. Some will identify with her class-wise (against "intellectuals," "snobs," etc.). Some will like her persona. And some will like her because she's prolife," Stackhouse said.
"Some are racists, of course, and that'll be that. But many evangelicals will not support Obama because he is not even moderately pro-life (versus, say, the Clintons) and because he is, indeed, inexperienced versus Senator McCain. Many moderate evangelicals will prefer Obama's politics to McCain's. Some will be turned off by the racism at some GOP events - and upset by Governor Palin's refusal to denounce them. But many, many evangelicals, I expect, are appalled (as I am) that Senator McCain would put the United States and, indeed, the world in the perilous position of having the inexperienced and, it appears, morally and intellectually suspect Governor Palin one heartbeat away from the U.S. presidency. It shows a dreadful lack of judgment--precisely what he is supposed to offer instead of the callow Obama. And for many, that'll be that."

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beastshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach Adonai
of the field which YHvH had made. And he said to the woman,
"Indeed, has God said,
'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"
Well, let me call it what it is...
A fresh, steaming pile of Bravo Sierra.
What was his choice, Lieberman? Please.
Instead of winning today, McCain would be 20 points down.
Does he have a reason for Palin’s 20k plus crowds or is that racism, too?
The prince of the air is busy. Saul was much more qualified to be king in the eyes of men than David was too.
LOL
Been following evangelicalism for 35 years, never heard of this stooge.
> Has someone from the Vancouver Sun ever even met an evangelical?
Coming from Vancouver originally and being subjected to that leftist, zero-IQ crap for the last X # of years? NO.
-Now you know why I left that stupid city/country called kanadastan.

Scent of Christ
This guy is no “scholar.”. He is an academic who is clearly not operating on all cylinders.
This is a huge pile of bovine excrement! All the evangelicals I know weren’t even planning on voting for McCain UNTIL Governor Palin was selected. Then they were on FIRE!
This is just an effort to further minimize her in the event McCain does not win. They are very fearful of a Sarah Palin with more experience, and a built-in base, running for President in 2012.
It is desperate.
What “evangelicals” is this guy talking to? The Unitarian Universalist Church?
I’m quite sure this guy is equally qualified to write an article about how blacks have yet to discover that BHO might not be white. Where do you find these irrelevant fools?
First RINOs, now EINOs.
The "experience" issue was McCain's strongest weapon. He disarmed himself with this selection.
I am a principal at a Chrisitan school (K-8) in a Twin Cities suburb. Our students voted yesterday and McCain recieved over seven times the votes as Obama.
Sarah Palin will be getting more experienced. Joe Biden won't be getting any less senile.
Translation" Me and the voices I hear in my head.
Read his wiki page. This guy is not an “Evangelical”, he is a liberal writer that covers religion for a Canadian paper.
I think it is a mistake to do that. Peggy Noonan, I don’t understand what’s up with her, it’s one thing to think Palin isn’t qualified it’s another thing to vote for a Marxist, I don’t care how smooth of a talker someone is. You’re plan, to wage war could backfire. You might get what you wish for. The conservative-moderates could end up starting a major third party movement that is pro-life. This third party movement could end up attracting moderate-conservative Democrats. And since when do people try to destroy those who don’t support their candidate? That’s why we have primaries. You sound like you are part of the racist wing of the party. For your information, just like the Democrats have their extremists, so does the Republican Party. You got to consider that. I really don’t respect a women who says one thing and does another. How can Palin, claiming to be a conservative christian, be working 20 hour days 7 days a week when she has a baby, and one with special needs no less? I am practiacally moved to tears when I think about it being that I have a baby myself and very aware of how much babies need their mothers. That is a major red flag and it’s just one tiny little example. Add to that she is not articulate and she appears to have double standards when it comes to many different things. And for a women to not be articulate is inexcusable, especially one who has been to college. A man, I can give a man that, but not a woman. If there is one thing a women should be able to effectively, it is to talk coherently and with understanding. Do you really want to go to the place where women use their looks to get elected to office? You wanna go there? There are plenty of beautiful women who are working in Hollywood who are very liberal who might take you up on the suggestion. Two can play that game and if that’s what you want our political system to degenerate into, then by all means, be my guest. It seems to be a pattern that when a country slides into socialism pretty women will use their looks as a tool to manipulate the populace. Did it ever occur to you that maybe some infiltrators within the Republican Party who have encouraged the promotion of Palin. Communtists have been known to play those kinds of games. They are dirty. If it’s true, I am not saying it is, Palin is not aware of it, she is just an opportunist taking advantage of a situation.
Ditto what you said
Of all the videos and emails that we tried to get to go viral this year; the one that really did was the Sarah Palin /Ester story.
I received that from at least 5 different sources, and even people who were minimally connected to the web heard about it.
It spread like wildfire, and all completely without the MSM, and under their radar. We loved her before, but that story solidified Christian support.
They are just hoping the Evangelical base isn’t coming out in full force-IT IS.
