Whether it's Palin, Jindahl, Joe The Plumber or someone as yet unknown, we have to be focused on reforming the decrepit GOP.
We must find the next Reagan, because this country is going to need him or her and true conservatives will not tolerate another Bush-Dole-Mcain ever again. Ever.

This was the election that determines the future of both the Republican Party and all of U.S. conservatism, and both Republicans and conservatives badly lost, thanks to a majority of both ignorant voters and stupid voters. When stupid voters and ignorant voters form a majority of voters throughout the U.S. and then illegal immigrants are also added as future voters to both of these groups for all future U.S. elections, then it’s really all over forever for this country, folks! All of the optimism really doesn’t cut it when reality keeps saying something else. People can attack my pessimism all they want to, but I’m still correct about all of these things. My ongoing depression about what has just happened on November 4 will be with me for the rest of my life, and I know too well about all of the “mess” that’s really coming this country’s way. So many people’s lives and so many businesses will be ruined for good for many years to come, and conservatism won’t ever successfully return to this country in my lifetime, if not forever. The left will always do all that they can do to make sure that conservatism never returns to the U.S., while the left also continues to screw up everything on every issue while getting away with it each and every time!

I think the PUMAs were about like the Paulistinians -- got lots of attention but really didn't have the numbers to be of any significance.

Did West win his seat? Last I saw he was losing.
A lot of them were shamed in their own families for daring vote for a Republican... I fear in the end they relented or didn’t vote.
So what did you read? Because I loved the Clinton articles in TAS (Troopergate, etc.) and Warren Brookes in the Chronicle - awesome. And NR was still Buckley-influenced back then.

Well, I did say "most of the right things," didn't I? Unfortunately, a Ronald Reagan is a once in a century kind of President. Bush was awful and I warned all who would listen in 2000 that he would wreck the party. Even so, a Gore or Kerry would have been far worse (obviously.) We always choose the lesser of two evils, no?

You’re right, we had a Reagan and we showed him exactly what he was worth, one-percent. We thought going soft and presenting a lighter version of our beliefs would win the day. We were bad wrong and instead of drawing voters from the opposing side, some from both sides rejected us for our weakness. If we don’t believe what we believe then why would anyone else?
We treated the primaries just like it was some kind of popularity contest, an American Idol for the Leader of the Free World. So, no one should be surprised when the general Election became the same.
We had a candidate who could have gained a lot of support from those fed up with illegal immigration. McCain did not even bring it up nor could he. Hunter talked about jobs for Americans and keeping jobs from going overseas. He knew we couldn’t just follow blindly down the avenue of free trade and trade paper, but needed to actually produce something.
He would have put the rust belt in play and the broken glass conservatives would have showed up at the polls. He was very strongly anti-abortion and the Evangelicals that get occasional disdain on this site, would have won the election for him. Palin helped in that regard, but she was wrongly portrayed by the media as a dolt and inexperienced and the Sheeple bought it.
The identity politics have already started here and talk of diversity on the ticket. It appears nothing was learned. We shall see, if there is anything left to see. McCain-Feingold and immigration sure didn’t help McCain any. Of course it wasn’t all Mac’s fault, he did what he could against the media juggernaut. Still a candidate with more ammo should have been able to take this no one to school.
I learned a lot from Warren Brookes. We may be the only people here who remember him. It’s little surprise that he died in 1991, around the time NR was turned into a playpen for the unemployed brats of well connected Republicans. The great writers who had made the magazine so compelling either retired or were forced out.
Chronicles became my staple. I still subscribe to it, as well as the American Conservative.

Now there is something I could subscribe to! I have always believed that "the lesser of two evils is still evil." Not that the lesser is not still the morally correct choice, but let's not go overboard in thinking that the lesser of two evils is good.
Dark days ahead, I fear, but you never know what history will bring - and how we can shape it.

I have his book “The Economy in Mind”, I’ll have to dig it out and savor it again.
There apparently was a collection of his writings published as “Unconventional Wisdoms”. I see it offered new at Amazon for a mere $148.00, or used for $1.99.
It’s a shame these two aren’t offered as eBooks now that they are out of print.

During "Katrina" emergency, Gov. Blankout, Landrieu's creature, was talking to Landrieu, and it is said Landrieu was talking to Carville. What else do we need to know about how the "Katrina" mess worked out? I suspect Landrieu let Blankout stink it up semi-on-purpose, in order to mess with FEMA and Bush for The Klintonx benefit. Blankout probably never even knew she was being played by Slick and Beast, IMHO. Not smart enough, out of her league in a citywide Tupperware party.
Well, let's get with Fred and his other half and start getting him in shape and in good enough health to run in 2012.
At the same time, let's send Sarah to England to sit at Baroness Thatcher's knee for a while, then go back to Alaska for a second term as Guv. Simultaneously with all the above, Condi needs to go home to Kallyfoahnyuh to understudy with the Governator as his successor. She needs some of the DoS sheen sanded off, for American domestic politics at the top.
BTW, Tim Pawlenty was interviewing for the 2012 slot tonight on ABC News ...... making tremendously RiNO'esque noises...... anyone know about him?
Oh, and if you believe the ABC and CBS Newsoids, it sounds like the RiNO wing of the GOP congressional caucus has been blown away ... they could meet in a corner booth .... wonder if the time is right for a total putsch against the RiNO's?
The Newsoids were fascinating over the regionalization of the GOP as a Southern party (their construction, de-emphasizing I think the input of the Midwest and Mountain States). Reading the text on the back of the lids of their mosaic-vision eyes, I think I read:
1. Regionalize GOP as Southern Party.
2. Demonize Southerners. (I heard a "Dukes of Hazzard sneer on PBS, talking about GOP voters in N.C. -- the ones who aren't Yankeefied Research Triangle DUmmies.)
3. Bork the GOP to death, leaving One Party, the Party of The One.

The Elder Bush was no friend of the gipper when he got the nomination. This election was a lot like ‘76. Lots of might have beens. We need to make certain a Regan comes out of this Carter.
