Sarah Palin could wind up in Washington serving with John McCain after all -- in the U.S. Senate.
Here's the scenario making the rounds of arch-conservative groups strongly in the Palin camp:
After their expected loss today, Palin goes back to being governor of Alaska and McCain remains a U.S. Senator (his term ends in 2011).
But Ted Stevens, the Alaskan Republican senator convicted recently of corruption, is still up for re-election as of today.
Here's where Palin and the Senate come in:
If Stevens wins, he could either step down on his own (unlikely, given his pugnacious personality) or the U.S. Senate could expel him in 2009.
Then, Alaska would hold an election to choose a new senator.
And, in this version at least, the oh-so-popular Palin would run and win a seat in the U.S. Senate

I agree. Senators have no clue about the people. Sarah needs to stay on as the Governor. But what do you bet they go after her to neutralize her for the next four years.

The days of any stick will do are over. It has to be someone in the senate to lead the fillibuster charge who has personality that will draw media attention to get the message out to the people. Like it or not, this cesspool we call the Senate now controls along with Obama and Pelosi the country. The problems of Alaska are minor in comparison to the rest of the Country and the World who Obama wants to change. And any old Senator won’t do to lead the charge. I think she is perfect for being the barracuda when needed and then being charming and she would in fact draw media attention. I see McCain doing the now, let’s get along and reach across the aisle the minute the going gets tough. He rolled on bailout and will again. She won’t. If not her, then who will play the heavy hitter to balance out the one party state and stand up? Name the Senators and Reps in the House who have the guts to stand up to a one party state on such things as illegal aliens getting amnesty ahead of people who are following the law trying to enter the country, chain migration (why Obama didn’t speak up on Aunti I bet), health care that resembles Europe, tax raises etc. Name the person (s) in the Republican camp who will get that media soundbite that will wake up people to the moochers who voted soley for mooching. Your taxes are about to go way up, way way up and moochers will have incentives not to work and will not pay taxes. Illegal aliens will in fact continue to benefit from public programs instead of legal residents and citizens. You speak up and they will call you a racist. Who best than her? And you are so limited being a governor in Alaska to what happens to the rest of the country. I think she would garner more credibility for any later runs by the Senate. Besides, the days of Senate being not enough to get you elected President are over and even a very inexperienced Senator just got elected. You are on the brink of losing all to one party and not just one party either but the Obama/Pelosi/Reid Trifecta with a Supreme Court to put their blessing on everything these three do with no media attention. If you don’t have Republicans with backbone who will fillibuster, then it will be a country you won’t recorgnize in less than 8 years and you won’t be able to get rid of the moochers and not everything can be undone. If not her, who else?? Mittens whose staff gutted her while running? If it were me (and I am just a few years older than her),I would do it in a heartbeat and be giving talks all over the place on women running and be a thorn in the Obama/Pelosi/Reid’s side and talk common sense to people and pick wise battles and lead the fillibuster charge and be all over late night TV showing my sense of humor. The media will follow her. There are very few the media will follow on the Republican camp now but they would follow her. Hiding out in Alaska now the game rules have changed will not forward her career at all. This is not the 80’s and no matter how it gets, the way to approach it will be from the DC angle. These people are mean and we have to be ready. They are far meaner than Rove ever thought of being and they have been planning for 8 years now.
No, she can't. Alaska changed the law after Murkowsky(sp?) appointed his daughter. Now there's a special election (like in Mass).
of course you don’t have to agree with me on the illegal immigration issue, but you get my point, you need a charming strong person who can stand her ground or his ground and pick wise battles to fillibuster on and who will get attention from the media for the rest of us masses who don’t live in places like Alaska
He is an excellent conservative, but he is awfully young. Given the sheeple’s needs for cool, calm, competent and charismatic, conservative may not be enough. I think he’s competent too, haven’t watched him enough to see if he’s charismatic enough to move the sheeple. Carl Cameron said Jindal is off to Iowa next week so it looks like he might be gearing up. We shall see how the MSM spins him.
I’m a big Palin fan, and my gut says she should “Go To Washington,” like Mr. Smith did.
She shuold spend her time there running against Congress, and being the outspoken outsider,. The microphones and cameras will be magnetized toward her. Let her be the next Gingrich, and let us take back Congress in 2010.
Here’s the fun part. In addition to her duties, she should get a prominent TV show from which she can run against the MSM, exposing their bias. Partner with MRC or Newsbusters, run it on CNN (not Fox), and create a serious but fun half hour of with a touch of “Daily Show” fun, that skewers the media, and which people want to WATCH.
It would be the equivalent of Reagan’s touring the nation for GE, giving inspiring political talks.
Quayle was made to look like a fool while he was in a position that had very little authority.
It's hard to dig yourself out of such a mess when you're an easy whipping boy and no one needs anything from you because the only thing you do is break ties in the Senate.
Palin is still extremely popular, as could bee seen by the crowds she drew when she spoke in public.
However, if she goes back to being governor of Alaska, she will likely be ignored by the media outside of Alaska and won't have the ability to build upon what has been started.
The media has tried to discredit her, but the media is about the only group people trust less than politicians.
However four years is still a relatively short time in which to build up her resume more for 2012, and since the entire population of Alaska is somewhere under 700,000 people, being popular there doesn't carry a lot of weight nationally.
stevens upon his conviction will create a need for a vacancy election in the alaska senate seat.
I have nothing but love and respect for Sarah. I wish her all the happiness in the world. If running for Senate or even President is in her desire or interest then Im behind her 100%. If she wants to stay home from this point on then God bless her for that as well. She owes nothing to no one in the lower 48. I wouldn’t blame her a bit for saying “screw you.”
I think the woman needs a little time off first. She has to be tired.

Anyone tied to Dubya or Rove needs to be quarantined. Even "The Architect" was all kissy face about Obama 30 minutes after the election was called.

She owes us that much. After giving our treasure and time to attend her rally. Todd or Sarah need to be there for us in the Senate. I know its hard on them the insults the time away from family but it must be done. Please Sarah, give this last full measure. At least now Sarah can tell us the full story about everything. How we can grow our economy out of the mess, if we use free enterprise instead of destroying it. How we need to end the unpatriotic areas of America, such as ROTC not welcome on many college campi and hot beds of blame America first are rampant in many areas.
Jindal/Cantor 2012. Palin can host a weekend afternoon talkshow on Fox for all I care...
