US President George W. Bush late Tuesday telephoned his apparent successor, Democrat Barack Obama, to congratulate him on his "awesome night," according to White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. "Mr President-elect, congratulations to you. What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters. Laura and I called to congratulate you and your good bride," she quoted Bush as telling Obama.
"I promise to make this a smooth transition. You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations and go enjoy yourself," Bush told Obama, she said.
The president also invited Obama and his family "to visit the White House soon, at their convenience," Perino said.
Bush was also to reach out to Obama's defeated rival, Republican John McCain, who conceded the fight shortly after 11:00 pm (0400 GMT).
And, thank you Mr. President, because your incompetence provided it!
I’d like to know what 0bama said after he was sure the line was disconnected.
that’s not true!
Dude, even Obama isn’t running against Bush anymore.
It’s starting already.
Yeah, W, it was like totally rad and junk.
I wonder if Bush suffers?
Bad dog. No biscuit.
Awesome? Sure - like when the troops moved into Poland September 1 1939.
I hope his unemployment is as hard on him and his family as the rest of the fine folks getting pink slips this Christmas.
Thanks, Mr. Bush for helping install the first openly socialist president. Your political incompetence rivals that of your Jimmy Carter.
“What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters. Laura and I called to congratulate you and your good bride...”
...man! I’m sorry but that’s waaaay over doing it. When W took office, the Clinton staff took all the “W”’s out of all the typwriters. Remember that? Take the “O”’s W. Take the “O”’s. And what’s this “good bride” bit? Maybe he meant “Bridezilla”.
Did you not expect President Bush to congratulate BHO?
more like Ford.
I agree completelely.,
He sent men to war and spent pitiful little energy defending the attackers of it.
He was weak and compromising.
We loved him and he neglected us.
And it was aided by the idiots that thought McCain could win.
This in a nutshell is what has been so horribly wrong with the Bush presidency. He is, in the end, his father’s son. He is a Rockefeller Republican who does not want to fight for a conservative agenda. He is more interested in getting along with the “other side” and being polite. This article, written early in his presidency, just about sums up the fatal flaw that he never got over:

You can say that again! This dolt rivals Carter in his complete incompetence. “Compassionate Conservative” my A$$!
Bush has always hated McCain. Did he engineer the financial crisis when McCain was ahead in the polls?
