Sorry to burst your little thought bubble, but Sarah excited more than the 'rednecks'. I knew many well educated, professional people, who were very excited about her candidacy. She was the only reason that McCain did as well as he did.
As for those three legs of the party, the Moderates, in this election, mostly went for Obama, and even 20% of conservatives went for him, presumably to 'teach the Republicans a lesson'. That went so well for them in 2006, I guess they wanted to do it again. /s

Ah, so anyone that disagrees with you must be a troll.
curiosity has a point. Palin will not appeal to enough voters to win a national election. Simply put, she will lose far more moderate and independent voters than she will gain from conservatives.

Excellent. Thanks for posting this. The GOP needs a youth movement. Time to put the old, worn-out war horses out to pasture. STAT.

Only to the populist, redneck wing of the party.
The martini-sipping crowd can go become Democrats for all I care. I hear they need some more pathetic, panty-wearing traitors in their party.

curiosity has a point. It's the RINO point of view. Tired of RINO's. Tired of them wanting us conservatives to apologize for what we believe. And don't attack Sarah today....I'm sick and tired of the Palin attacks. Why don't you two just join the Dem's then...thank you.

The Palin appeal is pretty much limited to the rural values voter. Good luck trying to win a general election with that coalition. Nothing wrong with rural values voters. McCain was a drag on the GOP ticket. IMHO, if McCain died one day after nominating Palin, she would have carried Ohio for the GOP.
I assert that point, because I canvassed my Ohio County with our GOP Congressional hopeful, Dick Stobbs. The County GOP ran out of McCain-Palin yard signs; yet no one wanted leftover McCain yard signs on their lawn.
And my former congressional district, back in the Peep's democRat Socialist Republik of Illinois, RINO McCain was wholesale slaughtered. And the conservative GOP hopeful, Steve Miller, gathered more votes in the district than RINO McCain did.
White guilt liberals, voter fraud, and flaming racists gave Ohio to Obama. Funny, of 88 Ohio counties, only the counties sporting major universities and ACORN registered park benches gave Ohio to Obama.
Cheers,
OLA

Palin will not appeal to enough voters to win a national election. Simply put, she will lose far more moderate and independent voters than she will gain from conservatives. Which is EXACTLY what the RINOs said about Reagan.

Yeah... that's why she drew in crowds almost as big as Obambi's on shorter notice, less budget, as VP, and in EVERY area they went to including Californistan.
Yer' kinda blind to a few things. I'd suggest correcting that attitude.

Which is EXACTLY what the RINOs said about Reagan. Well then you just go ahead and keep thinking Palin could win.
To: curiosity
Spoken like a true RINO. "Jettison the base" has been the GOP mantra since President Bush took office. 2 close elections and turning power over to the most Marxist candidate in US history are the result.
How about we get back to cementing the Base, yes... us bitter gun clingers, and then try and make the message palatable to the Masses by putting up a candidate with Charisma to help get it across. Someone like Palin.
Or, we can take your suggestion and run another Dole/McCain type ticket and see exactly how far down our polling numbers can go on election day...

McCain wouldn’t have even gotten 30% of the popular without Sarah on his ticket. Bank on it...

What we need is for the young guns to put out frequent columns where they outline their visions. Then the rest of us can get them known among our circle of friends.
You generally don't go from high-school baseball directly into a major-league slot. You work your way through the minors first.
The Republican Party is broken in that we don't have a career path, with scouts checking out promising new comers.

"Jettison the base" has been the GOP mantra since President Bush took office. Actually, I'm saying quite the opposite: preserve the base.
The problem, as evidenced by the many angry replies to my post, is that the value voters think they are the entire base and want to jettison the rest of us.
I have nothing against values voters. All I ask is that they realize they are not the entire base. They are merely on leg of the GOP stool.
