Nothing wrong with rural values voters.

I never said there was. My only point is that they are only one part of the center-right coalition we need to put together to win.

Values voters alone cannot deliver an election.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to realize this and seem to want to jettison the rest of us.

McCain was a drag on the GOP ticket.

I agree. McCain is worse than Palin. Palin at least can inspire one of the three parts of the GOP base. McCain doesn't inspire anyone, not even the national security conservatives.

The martini-sipping crowd can go become Democrats for all I care.

That, my friend, is precisely the attitude that will turn the GOP into a regional party.

Good luck winning elections when evangelicals become the only reliable GOP voters.

It's the RINO point of view. Tired of RINO's.

Ah, yes. Anyone who's not an evangelical is a RINO.

This is precisely the kind of attitude that will doom our party permanent minority status.

You folks need to realize that you cannot win elections without the metropolitan, pro-business side of the party.

This provincial conservative populism I see on display so brazenly here, and that Sarah Palin embodies, is not a winning strategy by any strech of the imagination.

We need more young, attractive women.

Is this where I place my order for one?

;)

I'm a libertarian leaner from Ann Arbor. I voted for Palin a lot more than McCain. I also heard of Palin before he was VP.

If the idiot staffers (Wallace, etc) let her be herself and had her concentrate on what she'd done in Alaska, she'd have been better.

Not a fan of Huckabee either for his tax increases.

McCain wouldn’t have even gotten 30% of the popular without Sarah on his ticket. Bank on it...

Palin won't be able to win a national election. Bank on it...

Great list! How difficult would it be to post small pictures beside each name?

Neither a redneck or pro-populist here. I would have voted against Obama on Tuesday. With Palin I voted for McCain.

In actuality it is the first time I have voted for a Republican rather than against a Democrat.

Bush I against Dukakis
Dole against Clinton
Bush against Gore
Bush against Kerry
McCain against Obama
For Palin against McCain.

She is Reagan early in his governorship of Cali. Give her time to polish her national credentials.

Not if the GOP listens to chuckle-heads like you. Agreed. She needs to pull a Reagan and buck her own Party if need be...

I disagree. Reagan, even before he was governor, could speak intelligently at length on any number of economic policy issues.

The best Palen can do is repeat "greed and corruption on Wall Street" and change the subject to oil drilling.

Reagan was a deep policy thinker from the beginning of his political career.

Palin is no Ronald Reagan, and if you think she is, you're deluding yourself.

Greetings curiosity:

Thanks for replying to my previous comments.

What exactly do you find attractive about her as a candidate?

Easy.
1. Pro-life.
2. Pro-gun.
3. Fiscal conservative. Cuts spending, in a leadership by example case study: She sells the governor's jet plane perk.
4. Fights "good ole boy network" corruption.
5. The 80% approval for a Governor.
6. She's an ordinary American.

Cheers,
OLA

1. Executive experience
2. Defeated incumbent candidate and former governor
3. Understood energy policy
4. Cleaned up some of the corruption in Alaska.
5. She lived what she believed. I do not have to worry about her on the 2nd Amendment and the life issue.

I wouldn't go as far to say she's Reagan. There's only one Reagan.

Palin right now isn't my first choice for President in 2012, but I would put her right after Mark Sanford or Bobby Jindal.

No Senators, please.

I would add a third issue to the "lived what she believed" list with her son being in Iraq.

Your post exemplifies exactly what's wrong with the attitude of too many rank-and-file republicans.

It's great she's pro-life and pro-gun. Fighting corruption is always good, as is popularity.

But I note that conspicuously missing from your list is a coherent conservative political philosophy. Indeed, in this regard she is remarkably shallow. I also note that conspicuously missing from your list are any notable accomplishments in government. And no, a few symbolic cuts in spending like the plane, or anti-corruption rhetoric don't cut it.

Which brings up your final reason for liking her: she's oridinary.

Why, oh why would anyone want an ordinary president? A good president needs to be extraordinary. A good president needs to have an extraordinary grasp of important issues and a coherent political philosophy that guides him. A good president needs extraordinary abilities to manage.

The desire for an "ordinary" person as president is what allowed the Huckster to win Iowa. It is the new identity politics, and if it continues, it is going to doom our party to regional status.

Greetings curiosity:

Attitude akin with rank-and-file Republicans? Identity politics? LOL, very amusing! We lost because McCain was democRat lite, not because of Palin. But I've digressed.

Economics: Palin, unlike McCain, supports creation of wealth; drilling ANWR. Creation of wealth begins with obtaining raw materials, the building blocks for the Wealth of Nations.
International Economics: Palin negotiated an International commerce agreement with Canada for the pipeline delivery of petroleum products from Alaska to the lower 48. That, in itself, is quite an accomplishment. Name one other US Governor who negotiated an international treaty with Canada during their first term.

National Security: This is for any Governor of the only US State (formerly territory) occupied during WWII; I see a giant BS flag over this absurd nonsense asserting Palin knows little about national security. Given the DEW line, and an array of National Security related projects are hosted in Alaska.

Too bad if I come across as an anti-snob, because, I happen to like REAL folks in government. Palin’s just an ordinary person, who performed extraordinary work as Governor. She's not larger than life. She not carefully scripted.

As far as the Huckster, the only difference between his primary issues and those of the democRats; was the “R” after his name. And McCain, the only difference was winning the WOT.

So, why exactly do you oppose Governor Palin?

Cheers,
OLA

She does not have a clue about economics. She has a very shallow understanding of national issues, which tells me she has very little intellectual curiosity. I can tell from her performance at the debates, as well as from her interviews, that she has no real political philosophy to guide her. She shows little interest in coming up with new policy ideas.

In other words, she's a lightweight. Her political appeal is based on nothing more than crass populism and the identity politics of sex.

And no, the fact that she was not involved in national politics until August is no excuse. Reagan showed an intense interest and curiosity in political philosophy as well as policy issues at the national level long before he ran for president, even before he became governor of California.
