SEATTLE - Immigration officials say more than 10,000 illegal aliens were deported in the last year from Washington, Oregon and Alaska - breaking a record for the region.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 10,602 aliens were deported to their home countries between October 2007 and November 2008 - a jump of more than 35 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Considering that as many (if not more) are still entering the US illegally … this seems to be a zero sum game to me.

Yeah, the Border Patrol people here set up roadblocks and randomly pull cars over ... they have a large bus sitting off the road as well.

This is just anecdotal, but you are seeing ALOT less illegals coming to the New York and New Jersey area than you did in the 1990s. I know that many of the Ecuadorians started going to Europe after post-9/11 airport rules made it a b-tch to travel, and that many of the Brazilians have gone home due to their booming economy (which will soon go bust). Even the Mexicans and Guats aren’t coming in as large numbers as they were just five years ago.

These numbers will drop to zero after January and they will all be citizens and Democrats by 2010.

(Just like 1964, Republicans will go along but get no credit.)

I suppose it is way below natural increase of illegal populatio and infiltration of new illegals.

Not so much anymore. Their numbers are down to a relative trickle and more are actually going back voluntarily.

The only other option is to support North American Union, but somehow I feel that you are against it too.

Perhaps. I do believe that each time you deport the main bread winner in the family, the rest follow them back. Hopefully the border fence is slowing down the number of crossings.

Is the slowdown of Mexican illegals do to stronger border control, more stringent employer, government oversight, deportation, general disillusionment in the (not so great) pot of gold north of the border or fear of being caught? Just trying to understand the reasons. ;-)

A combination of many of those factors. Those that come via airplane complain about the endless tourist visa problems and security checks, employers in many states now are under more stringent rules about who they can hire, and with the death of the construction industry, there are no more checks to send.

ICE better step it up.
Illegals get amnesty and ICE gets a huge budget cut when the Wizard of Oz takes over.

Nice. Let’s get those numbers up.

I can call ICE and tell them where and when to find a few hundred suspect immigrants (our local park playing soccer every weekend). I would if I thought they would do something about it.

I don’t know, an amnesty push could be Obama’s Waterloo.

When the numbers hit 100,000, not 10,000, we’ll start making a dent in 20 million.
