Anti-Obama Graffiti Found At Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue officials are investigating anti-Barack Obama graffiti found on the West Lafayette campus this week.

An obscenity and the president-elect's name were painted on a tree in an area near the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall, where black students often gather.

Other graffiti was found chalked on campus sidewalks and buildings.

In a letter to the campus, Purdue President France Cordova called the graffiti "deeply offensive."

"Such conduct is reprehensible and wholly out of character with Purdue's long tradition of fellowship and mutual respect," Cordova said in the letter.

Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis said officers are trying to determine if a crime was committed, since First Amendment rights were involved.

The enlightened youth living up the street from me used to have some of the most horrible stickers plastered on the back of his Honda Element. I always had to resist the urge to leave a big sticky loogie on the door handle. But I couldn't help but wonder how many people had passed by that vehicle and were shocked by the language. Did a local reporter show up with a camera to record the crassness? Nah. It wouldn't have been a big deal. Freedom of speech, don'tcha know, plus it's normal to be outraged by evil Republicans.

But you're right, I fear - public displays, however small, of anti-Obama sentiment are going to be reported on incessantly, because they are going to be perceived (by an Obama-fellating press, don't forget) as so out of the ordinary.
