Fair's Fair (good commentary!)
Cake Eater Chronicles ^ | November 8, 2008 | Kathy Nelson

It's been interesting reading conservative blogs over the past couple of days. There appears to be one main issue floating about: how should we treat President-Elect Barack Obama? There are two schools of thought. The first being that he has been elected President of the United States of America and we should treat him with the respect that is due to his office, unlike the left, who attacked President Bush from day one and compared him to Hitler, called him Chimpy, etc. Criticize his policies, but do it respectfully. Those that adhere to this school of thought seems to believe, by doing this, they will be taking the moral high ground, thus following through on their conservative principles. While the debate about just what "conservative principles" actually should be in the wake of McCain's defeat still rages, they're nonetheless all about keeping it classy, because conservatives, apparently, should be classy. The second school of thought is, basically, screw Obama, he's going to get it from all angles, and who cares if he's President---he's not their president, they don't agree with his policies, they think he's a bald-faced liar, and they're going after him.

While I appreciate what the first school is attempting to do, I have to say, my gut instinct is, if we do that, if we take the high road, Republicans will lose the next election. And the one after that. And the one after that...

He will NOT be my President. He’s on his own.

Will we get in trouble if we call him a chimp?

McCain was never a conservative and never espoused conservative values. That’s why the GOP lost this race. Look at the numbers. Democratic turnout was not up (accounting for the growth in US population), GOP turnout was way down. BHO did not win, the GOP lost.

The office of the president deserves respect. The Dem extremists will have very little patience and will hate BHO within a matter of weeks - as soon as he does not deliver for them. They will do the job of tearing him down for us.

Eye on the prize, taking back the Congress in 2010, the White House in 2012.

Obama is the Affirmative Action Candidate.
He was able to get into Columbia & Harvard due to his race, He ascended to his law firm due to his race. He practiced race based politics in Chicago and was anointed to his position in the primaries because of his race. And last but by no means least, He slyly and effectively used the race card against Clinton and McCain, and gave white voters the salve to calm their ridiculous White Guilt.

“I simply don’t think the Republicans, in Congress specifically, have been playing harder and smarter than their opponents. They whine that they simply don’t have the numbers to get much done. They’re lazy, complacent, unwilling to move. Yet, surprisingly, a goodly number of Republicans killed the first try at the bailout. It shows that when they’re willing to scrap, and fight, and fight hard for something, they can get something done-—and what’s more is they can bring some of their political opponents with them. They were principled, driven by morals and their constituents’ wishes, and they took that bill down. Does it say something significant that most of them were persuaded to change their votes for the second-go round? I don’t think it does.”

That was a great column, they caught the essence of the disconnect, we can sit on our backsides and blather about “Unifying the country” or we can do what we do best:

Le audace, Le audace toujours Audace!

We have the winning arguments and the proven workable plans, they have fairy tales and sponge cakey good feelings...

I agree!!

He is not MY President. Period.

He is a fraud, a sham and a con.

If a political coup took place by gun, it is no different than this to me.

The author has created a false dichotomy that will lead to disaster if the right follows the Obama Derangement Syndrome approach. The opposite choice is not the straw man “high road” approach.

The left owns the channels of communication. If the radical leftists called Bush a chimp, how much play did it get? Zero. If you call Obama a chimp, how much play do you think it will get? The entire conservative movement will be so marginalized as to produce an “open season” in the public eye.

It’s fine, I guess, to say that Obama is “not my president,” but the technique of converting the sentiment to action has to be quieter and more subtle than screaming like a leftist.

Yes, yes and absolutely yes! There will be NO respect from me. I can not respect a Marxist-Socialist-Communist-Obamanist. Whatever you want to call it. All I know is that it’s not good for America. It wasn’t meant to be here in the first place.

Perhaps the place to start is for George Bush to bring in sandbags around the White House, arm himself and use the White House Guard to prevent Obama from assuming the office in January. Boy that would show them.

Oh, I almost forgot, that pesky Constitution frowns on that sort of behavior. With all due respect folks, according to the Constitution, on January 20 Barack Obama, in point of legal fact, will be YOUR President. I don’t like it any more than you do, but unless you want to sound like all those idiots who continue to claim that Bush “stole” the election from Gore in 2000, then get real.

There is nothing in the Constitution that says you cannot criticize your President. In fact, the document protects that sort of protest (and the Obama administration will have to be frequently reminded of that). If the loyal opposition does not go about this smartly, we will be marginalized and utterly unsuccessful. Of course Kathy Nelson may prefer a more noisy sort of approach, after all that is the stock in trade of most of the blogosphere. But as valuable as that is, it is not necessarily where true change occurs.

Wisdom is not appeasement. Be wise or be marginalized.

We are in an ideological civil war, but only one side has been fighting. We, the conservatives, have been trying to appease the other side; and we all know how that usually works out.

The good guys don’t win if they don’t fight back.

We can take the low road, but remember the media covered for the left when they did it.

When the democrats went overseas and criticized President Bush in foreign press and in interviews, nothing was said about the policy that politics stops at the water’s edge.

When the lies about the admin were spread all over the media abetted it.

The media is not neutral. Anything that goes below the belt like the other two sites which shall not sully my keyboard did, and they did say some hideous garbage, was covered up.

We will not have that luxury. The GOP must be as cunning as foxes.

This president is gravely serious, mysterious, and dark in spirit. As a result, satire will be difficult. Beyond that, “race” jokes will be viewed as unacceptable. This guy is going to be untouchable in many ways. And, for those who attempt to question, criticize, belittle, or berate, I suspect the reaction will be swift. (See Joe the plumber.)

I will accept this osama as my president only if:

1) he can prove that he was born in the USA.
2) he can prove that there were no voter fruad by the likes of Acorn and that dead people and Mickey Mouse didn’t vote him in.
3) he can prove that he is not a Marxist who will turn USA into USSA.

TV news reports are that gun sales in Virginia and nation-wide are at off-the-charts-record levels.
