U.S. vows to back off if fighters use Afghan civilians as cover
CNN ^ | 11/9/2008

U.S. forces in Afghanistan will "back off" from firing at insurgents if the fighters are using civilian buildings as cover, the U.S. commander in eastern Afghanistan told CNN.

"I've given direct guidance, and so has my boss to me, that if there's any doubt at all that the enemy is firing from a house or building where there might be women and children, that we'll just back off," Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schloesser, the commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division, told CNN's Barbara Starr.

"That potentially is something that we did not do before, but now because of this increased emphasis, we are doing," he said in an interview at an outpost in Afghanistan's Paktika province near the Pakistani border.

I can't think of a better tactic to increase the use of civilian shields. Just look at the palestinians.

I had to read the title 3 or 4 times because I thought I was reading it wrong.

This is too stupid to be true.

“Or is there some sort of Machiavellian spin on this that I haven’t grasped?”

Yeah, probably. There usually is. I’ll suggest one possibility: Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schloesser was so utterly disgusted by the orders that came down from his ‘boss’ that he disregarded protocol and spoke of them publicly, hoping that if there are still some rational people making decisions, this will be reversed. I have no evidence that was his motivation, it’s only a possibility.

“”I’ve given direct guidance, and so has my boss to me, that if there’s any doubt at all that the enemy is firing from a house or building where there might be women and children, that we’ll just back off,” Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schloesser, the commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division, told CNN’s Barbara Starr.”

I want to clarify that there usually is a spin on everything, not that there’s usually something you haven’t grasped!

“Might as well pull out now.”

It is an imperative that we pull out now. This tells us two things:

#1 The General officer corps cares more about politics than their soldiers (The good general should have resigned on the spot when ordered to implement this “strategy”)

#2 We are asking our soldiers to do the impossible. Fight, but not fight back. It will yield senseless death.

Both of these mean we have lost through loss of will to fight from our political leaders. Don’t sacrifice soldiers because you don’t have the balls to fight an actual war.

As long as Obama is so calm in demeanor, and speaks so eloquently, measured, cool, presidential, how can you think The One can fail? His way is the way in a united way. Prioritize, means in order of importance.

We are so screwed!

I think there is some fine print that is not being reported. We said WE would back off. As far as I know the Afgan army was not part of that agreement and didn’t say THEY would back off.

Maybe his plan is to go over there after his inauguration and make Yes We Can Speeches. He’ll Obamatize those miscreants in no time. Why not, it worked for a lot idiots in the US.

Part of the Bush ‘43 Legacy: open borders and invasion at home, “fighting” a PC war abroad.

It is worse than that. It gives the terrorists places to hide in any village in the world.

That’s it. Just bring our guys home. If you’re going to tell the enemy we won’t shoot if you hide behind women and children, what do you think they’re gonna do? We’re encouraging this by announcing we won’t shoot. I say bring our troops home NOW. To hell with them.

Not to mention, who wants to be the last American soldier killed trying to fight with impossible rules of engagement for a CIC who is a socialist erasing the USA you signed up to defend?
