Recommended Gun List for Freepers (Vanity)
11/09/2008 | SoftwareEngineer

I would like to request that fellow Freepers help us non knowledgeable gun owners in recommending guns that we can buy before gun laws get changed. Many of us have only a basic semi automatic hand gun and have never given much thought to anything else.

However, before gun laws change I would like to complete my gun collection and even buy guns that I can leave to my children.

Maybe we can organize the recommendations as follows:

TOPICS: Politics/Elections

I took it in the context of a friendly area.

I don’t have a wife or kids; heck, I don’t even have a girlfriend, and personally I feel I’m not ready to have children at this point in time.

As far as ancestry, on my mother’s side, is Italian from Sicily the generation before her parents, from what I know. On my dad’s side, Italian, though I’m not sure from where, and Puerto Rican. What I am 100% sure of is that I’m a third generation American, with my heart pumping red, white and blue blood, and (nothing personally against you or your heritage) everything from Europe I guess “bred” out of me.

I would most certainly fight and die for this country. The night of the election, I even accepted what may be my fate in the not-too-distant future. If this country requires my life before I reach the age of 25, so be it. But America shall not fall as long as I’m alive.

I think the S&W is a better value. Academy Sports doesn’t have a great selecton of handguns, but they do carry S&W, and CZ. My son and I were looking for AR 10 (.308) clone flat tops with a stainless 20-21” heavy barrel which none offer(so we’d get the longer barrel cut and crowned)...well that ain’t gonna happen soon. I was leaning/sold Rock River Arms (16” barrel only one now, waiting for parts for the longer barrels), DPMS, (not my favorite at all) all sold out and not looking to be available for 6 mos!!! I ordered a .50 Beowulf upper from Alexander Arms a month ago and it had an 18 week turn around. I think all the vendors/mfg are waiting to see if an assault weapon ban and it’s definition will pass.

MMM, I’m Acadian, French, with a little English and Scot thrown in.

Italian from Sicily,...coastal pillagers perhaps?
No bad intended, it just tickled my thoughts.

Thanks so much for this thread, bookmarking to read later.
I’ve never owned a gun before, but from what my family and frinds are telling me, I better get one while I can, legally.

From an ammo point of view, the most available even if things get really tight is 9mm, .45, and .223. Having the same caliber for both a pistol and a rifle to start out makes a lot of sense. Also saves on cleaning kits, brushes, patches, which come in various calibers.

I’d recommend getting a 9mm semi-auto pistol

High End: Glock, Sig Sauer, Kahr
Mid: Beretta, Browning Hi Power, S&W, Taurus, Ruger, Walther.
Stay away from low end guns.(imo) But if you can’t afford the above get something.

http://www.gundirectory.com/body.asp?gun=Pistol&pp=1&sort=-3&ammoID=390&ammo=9mm&ammoD=9x19mm%2C+9mm+Para%2C+9mm+Luger%2C+9mm+NATO

Then a 9mm rifle - Bushmaster AR9 for example:

Beretta Storm:

(also available in .45)

Marlin Camp 9
http://www.alpharubicon.com/leo/marlincamp9war.htm

The Marlin is also available in .45 so you could suppliment a .45 pistol with that.

.45cal Pistols - Colt, Kimber. Esp. like this Kimber for carry:

http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/covert/ultra_covert_II/
It’s expensive but it has a built in Crimson trace laser - an accessory I highly recommend on any pistol.

http://www.crimsontrace.com/

If you want a highpowered rifle then AR15 (many manufacturers) or Ruger Mini-14 that shoot the .223 round.

http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_main_index.asp
http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAFamily?type=Rifle&subtype=Autoloading&famlst=20&variation=Mini-14%C2%AE%20Ranch%20Rifle

Or an AK 47 high end, SKS low end.

And take an NRA course on gun safety, then shoot every week. Make it a family outing.

Well you would be wrong. The O's website "change.gov" had a paragraph about taking guns until Tom Gresham started talking about it on his show. It was immediately pulled down. Google has a cache of it.

"Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets."

This is directly quoted from the change.gov website cached on Google.

Be sure to learn how to hand-load your own ammunition, and buy lots of supplies to meet your future needs. Obama plans on taxing ammunition with a 500% increase. (Said so on his website)

That way people can buy all the guns they want but can’t afford to shoot them. This philosophy was the same approach to get people to stop smoking. Make them 7 bucks a pack.
Also, look for a “License to own guns”, an annual “per gun” tax on those who own guns and declare all guns that are not registered, or face Federal Prison. And there will be several home searches to make examples of those who refuse. Just to generate fear in those who try to fight it.

(I) A shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Would that include a revolver that can fire shotgun ammo:

MODEL 4510 .45/.410

And if a five shot revolver is now an "assault" weapon, what about higher-capacity revolvers?

This is Schumer logic.

That's a good deal on the 870. However, I "think" handguns are going to be on the "must have" list. If the recession continues to slide into a depression, and then progresses into hyper-inflation and then monetary system collapse, concealable firepower will be the rule of the day. We're going to see corruption in the form of LEOs and Judges taking bribes and calling it "bartering", an astounding blackmarket, and lawlessness which LEOs won't be able to keep up with and will certainly contribute to at some degree.

...and then there's ammo. People toss around numbers of what must be kept. But the only hard fast rule is that you can NOT have too much ammo...unless of course the aircraft is on fire and LOSING altitude! A goodly portion of the ammo (as with the weapons) should be buried somewhere too. ...and in truth, that should be several somewheres.
