Thousands in Salt Lake City protest LDS stance on same-sex marriage
More than 3,000 people swarmed downtown Salt Lake City to march past the LDS temple and church headquarters, protesting Mormon involvement in the campaign for California's Proposition 8.
At one point, the crowd took up the mantra made famous by the country's new president-elect: "Yes, we can!"
Church officials are "disturbed" that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was "singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election," said LDS spokesman Scott Trotter earlier Friday. "Millions of others from every faith, ethnicity and political affiliation who voted for Proposition 8 exercised the most sacrosanct and individual rights in the United States - that of free expression and voting," Trotter said. "While those who disagree with our position on Proposition 8 have the right to make their feelings known, it is wrong to target the church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the democratic process."

The gathering follows several similar events around the Bay Area and California. Earlier today, more than 400 people gathered outside the distinctive Mormon Temple in Oakland to protest the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' support of Proposition 8.
And amid chants of "Stop Mormon hate" and "Enough is enough," many protesters worried that they had been complacent before the Nov. 4 election. A previous protest outside the Mormon Temple on Oct. 25 drew only about 50 people.
Some of those who gathered advocated for a boycott of travel to Utah, the home of the Mormon Church, and of Mormon-owned businesses. A flier that was passed out listed several such firms and asked that "gay dollars" not be spent at Utah ski resorts and at the Sundance Film Festival in January in Park City, Utah.

Outside the gates of a Mormon temple, Kai Cross joined more than 2,000 gay-rights advocates in a chorus of criticism of the church's role in a new statewide ban on same-sex marriage.
Two people were arrested after a confrontation between the crowd and an occupant of a pickup truck that had a banner supporting Proposition 8. One demonstrator ended up with a bloody nose in the fracas. Seven arrests occurred during Los Angeles-area street marches late Wednesday. The temple protest was organized by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.
Arson suspected in LDS temple fire September 10, 2008
Authorities suspect arson in an early morning fire at the Mormon temple in the St. Paul suburb of Oakdale.
Smoke and fire were reported in the front entry of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints temple shortly before 3 a.m. Fire Chief Jeff Anderson says it was mostly out by the time firefighters arrived.
The fire was mostly confined to the front doors, but Anderson says some light smoke got into a front room.
Church leaders estimate the damage at $25,000.
Investigators found no signs of forced entry, and authorities don't believe the case is a hate crime.
Anyone with information is asked to call Oakdale police at 651-738-1022.
They should just get a few truck drivers to show up and start throwing some faggots around. All that stuff will stop real quick. About time we answered this group, and all the others.
Oakdale Arson that occurred right after the GOP convention still "unsolved" and not considered a "hate" crime. in light of the organzied gay protests at other temples perhaps the police should check the local GLBT chapter.

Why are they not protesting in South Central L.A., where people turned out in record numbers to vote, and voted for Prop 8?

definately not a ‘hate’ crime since its just the mormons who were targeted, and not some minority group, gays, or perhaps a previously targeted religion.

Come to think of it, we can learn something from these idiots. We don’t have the fire in us that we need. We sit at home and we are being nice. We should be out in the street, protesting the Gitmo releases, the voter fraud, the buying of an election, the unethical media bias. We have dozens of reasons to be protesting!

This is really interesting to me. There used to be a time when the “will of the people was respected”, no matter who or how many others disagreed with it.
This will end up in court and the CA 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will overturn the election results.
How much longer do we sit back and allow the few to ignore the will of the many?? Obama’s represen6tative said today that he is “ready to rule” on day one. Not serve. Not govern. Rule.

Gay intent is not to persuade. Gay intent is to attach a cost to the political choice that non-gays just made. Their intent is focused on the NEXT round.
