Michelle Obama, wife of US President-elect Barack Obama, says she is "begging" her mother to move to Washington to be with their daughters who dote on their grand mother.
"I am begging my mother", Marian Robinson, to leave her home on Chicago's south side and move to the White House to be with Malia (10) and Sasha (seven), Michelle said and hoped that her mother will heed to the request.
"The girls are going to need her, as part of their sense of stability," Michelle told Newsweek.
"And what is true for my mom is that she does anything for us and her grandkids. All they have to do is look at her with sad eyes and she's done for," she said.
The family is expected to move to the White House after Obama is inaugurated as US President on January 20. Marian regularly made a 10-minute journey from her home to the Obamas' residence to look after her grand daughters for almost two years while their parents were campaigning for the primaries and Presidential elections.
Michelle said her mother initially told her that "there wasn't enough space" and that she "didn't want to intrude" into their space.
"I think she's going to come," she said. If 71-year-old Marian decides to stay in the White House, it will be an important addition to new White House team as the country's next First Family prepares for the domestic makeover.

My thoughts exactly. What a double standard.
I heard Michael Jackson will do it!
Yeah, I guess I’m still jaded by all the media slamming Sarah
for having the “nerve” to displace her kids by running for VP. Sorry.
you hardly ever heard of the Bushes unless it was negative
Stop and consider the class Laura Bush has. Look at her ability to handle social matters with dignity and calm. She is a person in her own right. You are looking at two totally different backgrounds and two totally different women. There is a distinct difference between crystal (Laura) and plastic.
Michelle will be the most powerful person in the White House . This is another part of the Clinton legacy . I will have to check with the Heritage Foundation , but I can't find First Lady powers in my Constitution .
Laura is one of the best first ladies in the history of the USA. What a classy woman she is!
Sarah’s teenage daughter got pregnant, so even Sarah makes mistakes.
Why wouldn’t she ask other first ladies how they have dealt with raising kids in the White House?
This really is petty.
Mrs. Clinton’s mother lived in the White House after her husband passed away.
What? You're not good enough?
Gee, Michelle, should you really be neglecting your kids that way now that you're going to be First eh, Lady? What are you going to be so busy doing that you can't provide the stability that they need?
I’ll agree with that!!!!!!!
Funny, but I’m going to cut her a little slack on this one. We shouldn’t get all snarky about the first family like the DUmpsters did toward the Bush daughters. It sounds like MO is a good mom, and if having the grandmother there helps the girls, more power to ‘em.
Poor BHO (person) of the United States of America, and he still has to live with his mother-in-law!
And so it begins....
There is justice....
Michelle is looking for a live in babysitter she won’t have to pay.
Exactly. If any Democratic candidate — male or female — had a 17 year old daughter pregnant by some trashy boyfriend, FReepers would have been howling that it was evidence of the candidate’s lack of “family values” and low priority on parenting. With Palin, it’s somehow supposed to be irrelevant.
I guess she’s beginning to realize what a “punishment” her children are.
What is she trying to do? Punish her mother with her babies?
President Grant kept his wartime mount Cincinnatus on White House grounds. I'm guessing this will be a similar arrangement without all the love.
