Michelle Obama Says She's 'Begging' Her Mother To Stay With Kids (in the White House)

Michelle Obama, wife of US President-elect Barack Obama, says she is "begging" her mother to move to Washington to be with their daughters who dote on their grand mother.

"I am begging my mother", Marian Robinson, to leave her home on Chicago's south side and move to the White House to be with Malia (10) and Sasha (seven), Michelle said and hoped that her mother will heed to the request.

"The girls are going to need her, as part of their sense of stability," Michelle told Newsweek.

"And what is true for my mom is that she does anything for us and her grandkids. All they have to do is look at her with sad eyes and she's done for," she said.

The family is expected to move to the White House after Obama is inaugurated as US President on January 20. Marian regularly made a 10-minute journey from her home to the Obamas' residence to look after her grand daughters for almost two years while their parents were campaigning for the primaries and Presidential elections.

Michelle said her mother initially told her that "there wasn't enough space" and that she "didn't want to intrude" into their space.

"I think she's going to come," she said. If 71-year-old Marian decides to stay in the White House, it will be an important addition to new White House team as the country's next First Family prepares for the domestic makeover.

If we get all petty, then that gives the Dems more ammunition to be petty when our guy (gal) wins.

I know the Dems were very petty with Bush, but we don’t have to be petty. We can be above all of that.

(However, we can be mean as H*** when it comes to policy and fight for real important issues!)

Children should be cared for by extended family if at all possible. I have no problem at all with Dear Leaderess’s mother living in the White House.

BTW. the President pays for his families food and other personal expenses.

In the mind of a socialist, assuming one has been “punished” with children, “First Mommie” means figuring out a way to get a live-in nanny that someone else pays for you to have.

That was a really lousy comment. Show me a set of parents that know every single thing their 17 y/o does and I’ll show you a child that has no freedom at all.

All any parent can do is raise them as well as possible and then trust them to make the correct decisions. My parents were very involved in my life and I still ended up pregnant before marriage.

Sarah has a husband.
Michelle has a “baby-daddy.”

"The family is expected to move to the White House after Obama is inaugurated as U.S. President on January 20."

expected to move? Does that mean there is a chance they won't move in?

I’m sure it wasn’t your intent , but there are some pretty low-class comments on this thread.

Let’s ask ourselves: “What would Sarah Palin say” before we post.

Obama gives us plenty of better targets than picking on his family.

I love Sarah, but have to agree. 16 years olds have no business dating anyway.

For some reason when I see a picture of the WS I hear the theme music from Sanford and Son. Am I the only one?

I keep on trying to get good out of this presidency.

I have 2 positives so far:

Role modeling grandmothers helping with kids.

Obama hates saggy pants, so I’m hoping that trend will be reversed in the next few years.

Nah, it just means they may not make President Bush move out until then.

"and who pays her way ?"

That is exactly what I'd like to know. I despise the idea of taxpayer dollars supporting him and his immediate family, I do not want one cent more than is absolutely necessary for their kenneling.

Oh God, help me y'all. I'm starting to go below to their level.

I have enough problems with Obama, but this isn’t one of them.

I totally agree.

Ask auntie Jemima !

For some reason when I see a picture of the WS I hear the theme music from Sanford and Son. Am I the only one?

And THIS is the kind of reflexive racist sh** that has turned me off this site. I've been here since 1997 and I'm just about done now.

His two girls deserve to have at least one caring adult living with them.

I can also disagree strongly with someone's politics without assuming they're awful people who don't love their families. I've seen nothing of the Obamas that indicates they're not caring parents.

I'm a conservative, not a racist and not a hater. Maybe I don't belong here anymore.

Now THAT will make a great sitcom plot.

Hapless hubby wins election , moves into White House with family AND mother-in-law, who butts into policy meetings and state dinners and interferes with the kids. Think "Everybody Loves Raymond" meets "Sanford and Son". It would be hilarious.

The South Park guys could do it.

Poor BHO — President of the United States of America, and he still has to live with his mother-in-law!

He seems to like his mother-in-law:

Then your parents failed. They were involved in your life, but they didn’t do a good job of raising you. Hopefully you’ll learn from your parents’ mistakes.

It’s not that difficult to raise children, what we need to do as a society is to bring back standards for parents to reach. While I might not tell you how to raise your children. I can provide the measures of success and failure.

Teen Pregnancy is a sign of failure - for the parents and the teenager. The Dude was off racing snowmobiles and Sarah was being the Governor and both were putting their own interest ahead of the family.

Say all you want about Michelle Obama, but if she thinks she’ll need help raising her kids in the White House, good for her to bring her mother in. Trust me in the next four years there will be a report of one of the girls going out to one of the tree’s in the White House Yard, break off a switch and bring it back to her grandmother for a beating.
