An American journalist was kidnapped by Taliban militants in the Afghan province of Logar, located 60 kilometres south of the capital Kabul. David Rohde, a journalist working for the US daily The New York Times, was abducted along with his driver and interpreter by a Taliban group known as Siraj Haqqani and has been taken to eastern Afghanistan, sources told Adnkronos International (AKI).

War-torn Afghanistan has seen a surge in kidnappings of foreigners by Taliban militants recently. On Monday, Canadian journalist Mellissa Fung was freed in Kabul after being held in captivity for four weeks by militants.

I could care less about a Times reporter.

They reap what they’ve sown.

The Taliban do much worse than that. That is a quick death.
I know the NYT is not a friend of the USA, but I have a hard time with so many FReepers actually taking some warped delight in this.
I think this might stem from the fact that the NY Times and staff have aided our enemy in a time of war by publishing classified information that put our troops at risk, published propaganda that most likely resulted in the deaths of troops in Iraq, and has done everything possible to undermine the valiant service and accomplishments of our troops.

Had this been WWII, I am certain that the staff of the Times would have been arrested for treason.

As a Christian, I don’t wish ill on anyone.

I agree. It’s very disturbing. The left has never had any decency, but it appears we’re now losing ours as well.

Some seriously sick and cold responses here. Personally, no-one deserves to go through such an ordeal.

Shame on those who are gloating at this news.

We need to make a prisoner exchange now. We get this reporter back and the Taliban get Pinch Sulzberger...

The location, Lowgar, is interesting. Though a province close to Kabul it is off the beaten path and its roads are (or at least were) in very bad shape. The major roads taken are from Kabul through Vardak and Ghazni to the west, or from Kabul through Nangarhar into Pakistan. I wonder what he was looking for? Perhaps he. like Daniel Pearl, thought he had set up a meet with “friendlies”. Hopefully, our millitary in Afghanistan will tell us.

Prayers up for David Rohde, his family, and our military if/when there is a rescue attempt.

Should feel right at home with them. He is of course one of their sympathizers. But maybe his views are changing at this very moment about the war on terror.
Perhaps he would like some of our “baby killers” to go in there and rescue him right now.

That’s like the New England Patriots kidnapping Walt Coleman. What’s the point?

I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to be in the hands of the Taliban. Remember what they did to Danny Pearl.

Because of what they did to Pearl, I could see my worst enemies suffering a similar fate. Except in place of a sword a dull kitchen knife should be used. Good thing I don't have any enemies....

Once he is safe we can get back to business.

Then you're never going to get back on track. Simply said that while safety is nice it's not first. Life is first and LIFE. IS. NOT. SAFE!

I’m with you. I pray he is set free and uses this awful experience as a stepping stone to see the enemy for what is and report on it appropriately.

Prayers for David Rohde and his family. I can not tell you how very disappointed I am by many of the responses on this thread. We might not care much for the NYT but by responding in this way we are even worse.

“Some seriously sick and cold responses here. Personally, no-one deserves to go through such an ordeal.

Agreed. Without question the NYT has been treasonous in their outing of classified documents referred to as “reporting,” this guy does not deserve to be held responsible for everything the NYT has published nor should any of us be making heartless comments like I’ve read here.

We are not the DU or the DailyKos.
