Will be getting a small inheritance shortly. We live pay-to-pay and have no savings. We do have credit card debt. The extra money will pay ALL debt except the house (down to $37k now), and we will be able to put $5k in the bank. This is all we can do right now. I just want to be sure that this is what we should do - pay all debt that we can - rather than to hold onto the money for any other reason. Any confirmation or quick advice?

The act of suspending his campaign is consistent with the gist of a closed-door session of Congress in March.

It’s not impossible that McCain knew more than we did, and did what he thought was more important at the time.

Apparently winning the Presidential race (suspending his campaign) was not as important as promoting a Bailout Package which was subsequently abandoned by Paulsen today. Their charade is becoming painfully obvious.

The best way to survive is to have land in an rural area, know all your neighbors, and above all have enough hands to man a defense 24/7. You’d do well to invite some friends or close relatives over to stay with you in things get hairy.

After a while you and your husband will get tired and fall asleep. At least with a big family you can set a watch, and the older kids could learn how to handle firearms and use them if necessary.

Paying off all of your credit card debt is a very good idea!

Thanks for posting the links. Been too busy to read everything. Will check it out later. What I was referring too in general was the fact that leading into this derivative catastrophe, the DC elites decided to destroy consumer confidence by flailing around like chickens with their heads cut off (September). They accelerated the fall into this derivative nightmare, which is just now beginning to take hold. Fiscally, the US government and many other government entities, not to mention hundreds of businesses, wont be able to escape the derivative black hole. If the DC elites were all told this was coming in March, why on earth would they destroy consumer confidence in September and cause summer bank runs (Schumer) ? And that is not even mentioning the fact that DC was supposed to be regulating these companies in the first place.

Earlier in the year, someone posted a link to a screen play written about an economic collapse in the US here on Freerepublic. The main character worked in Oakland and was trying to get to a ranch in Idaho. Anyone got a link to that screenplay ? I forgot to bookmark it and cannot find it in a search. It covered some of the scenarios we all may be faced with in the future, assuming the worse case scenario.

Whatever President Obama might do, he is still our President. We need to pray for him - despite profound disagreements.

With the full force of the U.S. Government, he can do whatever he wants. There isn't a lot anyone can do to stop it. He who lives by the sword, etc...

Fear him, yes. But hate him, or wish ill on him (even if he wishes ill on some of us, as he may)? No...

If he reaches out, if he turns out to be a tolerant man (one of the touted strengths of liberalism), it is a mercy for which we can be thankful. If OTOH he is all about power, himself, and his friends, it is the worse for us. Either way, I believe the best response is clearly stated in Scripture:

"Kindness, patience, gentleness, self-control, against such things there is no law" (Gal. 5:22). Also "Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you."

Nowhere is that a more powerful witness than amidst tyranny.

I realize this is not going to go over well in this forum, but it is the best response I can glean from Scripture.
