“With the economy in bad shape and the possibility of a deep recession looming, the Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to levy new taxes—on cows and pigs,” American Farm Bureau Federation Director of Regulatory Relations Rick Krause told Wyoming Farm Bureau members at their annual meeting. Krause spoke in Sheridan on Nov. 7.
“This is no laughing matter,” Krause said. “The cow tax and the pig tax are parts of a larger scheme by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.”
“Under the proposal, if a state charged the “presumptive minimum rate” from the EPA, the cow tax would be $175 per dairy cow, $87.50 per head for beef cattle and a little more than $20 per pig,” Krause explained.

There is precious little profit in farming/ranching now in the USA. The regulations have driven many a dairy out of business.

So they will put all the American dairy, beef, and pork farmers out of business and then we can import our meat from elsewhere?
So let me get this straight...the EPA is taxing cows while simultaneously dairy farmers receive subsidies from the Department of Agriculture.

Or is this a prelude to another subsidy not unlike the federal land bank. Pay ranchers not to raise beef to keep the world hungry. Either way, the consumer gets screwed.

Insane proposals designed to destroy businesses is the status quo for the modern “democratic” party.
We need to educate the masses before it’s too late, they have a bill ready to destroy every business in America.
Seems to me the chickens will be coming home to rooooooooost.
I’m insisting from now on that government officials follow all proposed guidelines for two years before imposing rules on the rest of us. When the environmentalists and politicians stick catalytic converters up their asses and stop exhaling for two years, then we can discuss the detrimental effects of farm animals.

I don't think so.
Oh come on now, you exaggerate. Such a tax would create an abundance of new “green” jobs and the price of beef and pork would certainly fall to new lows. Employment would soar!

The more people who suffer terribly in the next 4 years, the better. They (and unfortunately we will be affected also) deserve it.
