rbg81, take the flack and I will stand with you. You said what I have been saying for years now. The war effort alone is fine, done deal, but it cannot stand alone. I was for hitting the bad guys. But, I had my “why Iraq” thoughts very early on. While Saddam was a bad guy, he was not the only place in the middle east that was supporting Al Quida. Iran, Iraq, Alfgannie, Syria, other gulf states have pumped money into them. But, I always felt down deep that it was for daddy, what daddy did not finish. I have had other soldiers tell me that also. But, we soldiers go where we are pointed to go. We do our jobs. And live or die with the results. But I felt that Afghanistan was the primary target because that is where they lived. You attack the house where the bad guys are, not the neighbor's house. I agree that if we pull out of Iraq any time soon, it will fall quickly. Matter of a couple of years and Ole Bin Laddie himself may be on the throne there.

So you think we should go into Afghanistan and straighten things out? What a great idea. I wonder when we’ll think of that?
What’s that you say? We’re already there? In fact we went there long before Iraq? What a concept.

Disagree with the personal aspect of US targets in the Middle East. Saddam was the biggest out of control player. And the word in the Administration was who says he’s the last.

That was early on when we were making despots worry and Kadafi himself was shaking in Libya thinking that he was next on the target list.

In that regard, Libya was nothing to Saddam who had bribed the international league of immoral nations and was beginning the campaign to have sanctions lifted entirely.

Kay has completed his report and acknowledged that Saddam had all the components of his WMD program in place and would need very little time to kick it in gear.

The world would have looked very different in 2004 or 2005 if Saddam had remained in power. People tend to overlook that. The US had no support as the French and the Germans were sufficiently in the tank to allow Saddam to reconstitute his arms. Russia and China would have been happy as well with shipments ready to go for the petrol dollars.

The whole Bush Administration wanted Saddam out as they saw him as the biggest destabilizing influence in the region. There was not even the knowledge at that time of the ties to Al Qaeda that went back to the early 90s.

And need I remind you that here in New York, Iraq was the only nation that refused to lower their flags to half mast after 9-11.

USAF Deseret Storm veteran here.

I remember like it was yesterday having to leave my family to go to England because a terrorist named so-damned insane and his sons had invaded Kuwait, this after already having an 8 year long war with Iran that killed millions on both sides, burning civilian kurds with chemicals, was actively building nukes until the Israelis razed their nuke facility in the 80’s...who launched scuds at Israel and Saudia Arabia...etc.etc.etc.

After all that the @sshole was STILL given 12 MORE years and 18 MORE resolutions to striaghten up, but instead he put my fellow airmen patrolling the no-fly zone in jeopardy and it was recently disclosed the U.S. just moved several TONS of yellow cake from Iraq to Canada, so I ask, when did this terrorist @sshole stop being a terrorist @sshole and was determined to no longer to be a threat and turned over a new leaf between then and 2003, because I for one SURELY missed it!

History books will reveal that this was the right thing to do, not just because the world is a better and safer place without this @sshole and his @sshole sons in it starting wars with virtually all of it’s neighbors and killing millions of its own people and pursuing nukes; but chiefly because the hardcore suicidal terrorists...including much of al-qaeda were drawn into this vacuum to fight our troops as opposed to attacking civilians all over the world including U.S soil.

IF Iraq is ever abandoned to Iran it most certainly will not be on W’s watch!

BTW, bin-laden is in no position to EVER travel outside of his 2-3 caves.

As it stands the largest threat to the mid-east: Iran, is now flanked on one side by Iraq, the other by Afghanistan. We have bases there, and therefore a presence for a long time to come, to some degree even if the zero undermines all the progress made. Even as big an idiot as he is, HE will not want to be the one in history books that wants his presidency known for abandoning Iraq.
