Jeb Bush 'considering' Senate run
Politico ^

Posted on 12/02/2008 8:43:50 PM PST by Chet 99

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush – the younger brother of the president – is weighing a run for the Senate seat currently held by Republican Mel Martinez.

Martinez announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection in 2010. Asked whether he was interested in running for the seat then, Bush told Politico by email Tuesday night: “I am considering it.”

A source close to Bush said he'll be thoughtful and methodical about the decision-making process. He will consider the impact a race would have on his family and his business and whether or not the U.S. Senate is the best forum from which to continue his advocacy for the issues on which he’s focused, such as education, immigration, and GOP solutions to health care reform.

Jeb would be the front-runner (both in the primary and general election) if he decides to do it.

Jeb would be fantastic. A true leader with smarts and compassion. Let’s hope he runs.

May say he should have been President, not 43... but for his loss to Lawton Chiles in ‘94, he may have been...

Haven't we yet had our fill of Bushes?
I'm sick and tired of these political family dynasties.

Americans should never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER vote for another Bush. If someone suggests voting for another Bush, I will rise and yell nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, oh my God a billion times, nay.

Yes. But let me say this much. If there ever was a smart and deserving Bush it is Jeb. The guy is solid and at the very least deserves a Senate seat in Florida. I don’t think this nation will ever trust another Bush in the White House. Jeb would have to become a big leader in the Senate doing things big and attention grabbing to show his difference with W and Bush Sr. in order to even be considered for President.

Yes, he is qualified imo to be so...but first things first.

That’s not a compliment.

Jeb’s name may have helped him with the governorship in 1998, but if he wins the Senate seat in 2010 it would be on his own merits, not his family name.

A prominent conservative elected official remarked to me on election night, “That Bush family has contributed more to the destruction of Republican Party than anyone since John Wilkes Booth.”

Ain't it the danged TRUTH??? Again... We lived and voted in fear and didn't try hard enough to elect genuine conservatives.

I know you are NOT guilty of slacking off where good conservatives are concern. Thank you for all you do for the conservative movement, sir!!!

In all honesty, I’d rather see Jeb run for Nelson’s seat and let Rubio run for Martinez’ seat. Maybe we could get two men with backbones in Florida.

Jeb is pro-amnesty for illegals, is too often against domestic oil drilling, and he is another Bush! Just say no to political dynasties, and just say no to RINO Jeb Bush!

Jeb said that we need to not abandon concervatism and then in the same breath talks about “immigration reform”, aka amnesty...the republican party is not democrat-lite..they are full fledged liberals/socialists...it really started getting bad with bush41

Not a surprising comment.. The New Majority did not author the Contract on America, but certainly used it to acquire power for its own purposes and, in so doing, turned its back in more ways than one on that contract and the party.

Great! probably best candidate for an emerging blue state like Florida. Jeb has broad appeal and an established base there. hope he runs. he has my support. But I don’t live in Florida. :-)
