An Ugly Attack on Mormons

An Ugly Attack on Mormons

The easiest targets for an organized campaign against religious freedom of conscience.

By Jonah Goldberg

Did you catch the political ad in which two Jews ring the doorbell of a nice working-class family? They barge in and rifle through the wife’s purse and then the man’s wallet for any cash. Cackling, they smash the daughter’s piggy bank and pinch every penny. “We need it for the Wall Street bailout!” they exclaim.

No? Maybe you saw the one with the two swarthy Muslims who knock on the door of a nice Jewish family and then blow themselves up?

No? Well, then surely you saw the TV ad in which two smarmy Mormon missionaries knock on the door of an attractive lesbian couple. “Hi, we’re from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!” says the blond one with a toothy smile. “We’re here to take away your rights.” The Mormon zealots yank the couple’s wedding rings from their fingers and then tear up their marriage license.

As the thugs leave, one says to the other, “That was too easy.” His smirking comrade replies, “Yeah, what should we ban next?” The voice-over implores viewers: “Say no to a church taking over your government.”

Obviously, the first two ads are fictional because no one would dare run such anti-Semitic or anti-Muslim attacks.

The third ad, however, was real. It was broadcast throughout California on Election Day as part of the effort to rally opposition to Proposition 8, the initiative that successfully repealed the right to same-sex marriage in the state.

What was the reaction to the ad? Widespread condemnation? Scorn? Rebuke? Tepid criticism?

Nope.

The Los Angeles Times, a principled opponent of Proposition 8, ran an editorial lamenting that the “hard-hitting commercial” was too little, too late.

But whenever they’re challenged democratically and peaceably, they instantly complain of being victims of entrenched bigots, even as they adopt the very tactics they abhor.

Liberal SOP. Projection is their favorite flavor.

Speaking of ugly attacks, watch as gang of homosexuals attack a grandmother on live television. They scream at her, surround her, knock the cross out of her hands and STOMP ON THE CROSS before chasing her off.

On live television. Even the anchors in studio were horrified.

Yes, I do know that. But protestants stick pretty closely to scripture and they didn’t like that very much.

P.S., do you know how Mormons feel about traditional Christians? Not nice.

It is too bad so many are unaware of what is occurring with our neighbors to the north.

This is the path the homosexual agenda would like to follow in our own country.

Another case that “should” send chills up anyone’s spine, but sadly, it seems that unless there is a mob outside their own church, then it isn’t too troubling...

I’ve lived around Mormons my entire life and have never seen a problem. Perhaps you could give a real life reference of what you’re claiming.....?

What a great, brave woman who obviously is not Mormon. Mormons do not use the cross as a symbol. It just shows that others as well as Mormons were involved in the defeat of Prop 8.

Actually, I do know how Mormons feel about traditional Christians & you are wrong. Although we have differences w/ doctrine & believe there are some out there w/ evil intent, we believe “Christians” to be good people over all & headed in a good direction. We also believe that ultimately they can receive all the blessings the Lord has in store for them. We believe that most will not go to hell b/c of their beliefs.

We love them, associate w/ them, & often fight arm in arm w/ them on moral issues (i.e. gay marriage). In my area, we have inter faith activities & celebrations such as Christmas & Easter w/ them participating in conjunction w/ one another. We also have developed inter faith alliances for feeding the hungry & helping the homeless here as well.

Albeit we can have some doctrinal differences such as the Trinity, we still believe they are Christians & God fearing people.

Now, do you find those types of feelings & expressions always reciprocated here towards us? BTW, I find your lack of answer to my question rather conspicuous. I do wish you a great finish to your week.

Yes, but they were traditional Christians. According to your statement, one is lead to believe that traditional belief is binding & true. So, were Protestants heretics?

Every Mormon I know, or have known, including a former college friend, has been a very good friend and colleague, and of great character, and very conservative politically.

My college friend was a fun-going person, always willing to enjoy social time, and was usually the one to drive back home at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday night!

” It just shows that others as well as Mormons were involved in the defeat of Prop 8.”

The latest “spin” I’ve read was that the blacks were unwitting tools of the mormons because they might not have voted the way they did if it weren’t for the ads.

So - the msm is painting the mormons as snide, sneaky bigots bent on taking away rights - bent on taking over the government - and blacks were too dumb to see the ads came from the mormons.
If they did - they would have voted for gay marriage.

Unbelievable.

I read the mormons were less than 5 percent of the vote.

And like you said - there HAD to be ALOT of others who voted against gay marriage, in the most liberal state in the US.

Unfortunately, there are some here that believe the same as the MSM, that Mormons are snide, sneaky bigots bent on taking away rights, bent on taking over the government.

I am convinced there are liberal plants here putting forth the liberal, MSM line. Just one more case in point. Yes, it is unbelievable. Sad too.

BTW, thanks for continuing the fight against what we both see as a severe threat to our nation & Democracy.

“BTW, thanks for continuing the fight against what we both see as a severe threat to our nation & Democracy.”

I thought it was just a given that many here would understand what the homosexual activists are up to.

Maybe I’m tuned in because I also read catholic news sites, and this kind of thing has been reported (especially in California) for years now.
And their agenda is worldwide, and they don’t care what denomination you belong to.
Eventually anyone who ministers to the message of the bible will be targeted with a “hate crime” if we let them walk all over us.

Now, Reno...did you leave out something in that last sentence? Such as..."to be good people over all & headed in a good direction. We also believe that ultimately they can receive all the blessings the Lord has in store for them"...IF they either become "worthy" mormons while alive...OR WHEN they are baptized and confirmed into the mormon church AFTER they die"?

You know full well, that according to mormon belief, NO ONE will "receive ALL the blessings the Lord has in store for them" unless they accept Joseph Smith and his teachings, and prove their "worthiness" to sit at the hand of God and His Son by obeying mormon standards.

What is the "evil intent" you are accusing Christians of, BTW?

Folks, THIS is what mormons really think of Christians. They can "ultimately" receive all the Lord has in store for them, once they become "worthy".

And unless we band together, this is a battle we may lose.

Oh?

The Christian church has been AGAINST homosexuality WAY before MORMONism was ever invented!

bingo - and Canada and the UN are trying to take it past fear and trying to attach the “hate” label as they proceed to legislate against their definition of “hate”.

No Elsie, the rest of the time they’re just malinformed & disingenuous as stated.

Like Bond's famous words: "Shaken; not stirred", we note that it's "Stated; not proven."
